Take it easy on the quiet, spacious beach
Acoteias village offers the authentic feel of traditional Portugal and allows you to relax and enjoy your holiday at your own easy pace. Popular with couples and families, you’ll find plenty of quiet spots where you can simply unwind, take in the scent of the surrounding pine trees and soak up the sunshine.
The nearest beach is just a 10-minute walk from the village, with many of the resort’s hotels located a little bit closer. Praia de Falesia beach is a glorious Blue Flag awarded stretch of sand with a backdrop of spectacular multi-coloured sandstone cliffs. You’ll find lines of sunloungers ready for you to stretch out and snooze on, while the shallow water at the shoreline is perfect for youngsters to enjoy a bit of paddling. Stroll further along the beach to find your own secluded spot.
Relax in the traditional village atmosphere
The quiet pace of Acoteias helps to retain its traditional village feel away from tourist crowds. Here you’ll find plenty of small, quiet bars and intimate restaurants where you can sample authentic Portuguese cuisine such as delicious grilled sardines and fresh seafood dishes. Drop in on the neighbours
If you like to vary the pace of your Portugal holidays, be sure to visit the neighbouring resorts of Vilamoura and Albufeira. Here you can do some designer shopping, visit a waterpark with the kids or take in lively nightlife.
Vilamoura is just a 10-minute taxi ride away from Acoteias, but boasts a very different feel. This is a huge resort on the Algarvecoastline with a glamorous yacht marina and wide choice of lively restaurants, busy bars and shops.
There are two large beaches with a good selection of watersports available and the remains of the original Roman fishing village of Cerro da Vila to explore. It’s a perfect destination for a day trip between relaxing beach days, or for a lively, fun night out.
Albufeira is one of the top party destinations in the region, so the vibe here is sure to be energetic and lively. Even closer at a five-minute taxi ride from Acoteias, you can easily stop off in Albufeira and take in ‘The Strip’ with its long line of bustling restaurants,vibrant bars and late night clubs. It’s also a family-friendly destination with lots of children’s activities – including the Montechoro Fun Park.
Explore the local countryside or discover more of the Algarve
With its rural location surrounded by pine forest, Acoteias is the perfect place to do some country walks. You can also explore the craggy cliffs at the coastline and enjoy panoramic views out to sea.
If you’d like to see more of the Algarve region and explore some of its fascinating history, be sure to take a day trip to Faro. A 30-minute drive away, this is the capital of the Algarve region where you’ll see some of the finest 18th century Portuguese architecture. It also has a charming marina and a medieval quarter where you can relax in the restaurants and outdoor cafes. Fascinating sites in Faro include the Capela dos Ossos – or ‘Chapel of Bones’, named as its walls are decorated with human skulls and bones.
Enjoy superb golfing and sports activities
Acoteias has its own golf course, making it an ideal location for golfing enthusiasts. Perched high up on the cliffs with superb views over the Atlantic Ocean, the course covers over 168 acres of beautifully manicured areas. It features a spectacular championship tee known as the Devil’s Parlour, which is built over a ravine and requires a 197-metre shot over the cliffs to a narrow green.
For younger golf fans there’s even a Junior Club for ages 8 to 13. Open to adults too, it offers a wide sports programme including mini-golf, tennis, football and crossbow.
