Big city with a small town feel
This thriving beach resort has got tons going for it and is becoming one of Antalya‘s most popular holiday spots. A building height restriction placed on the town means that almost all structures in the city measure less than 21 feet in height. This preserves the beautiful skyline and gives Alanya a small-town historic feel.
But it’s not small-town when it comes to the activities and sites, with plenty of places to check out while you’re on holiday here. Alanya has numerous restaurants, a great shopping area and even some nightlife venues. Nature lovers can enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the city and walk through forests of fig trees, Lebanon Cedars and tall black pine trees.
Living the beach life
Kleopatra Beach is Alanya’s most popular sandy coastline and is extremely well maintained. Kleopatra beach is made up of soft sand and has sunloungers and umbrellas available to rent.
The coast itself has lots going on, with basketball courts, beach volleyball setups, exercise areas and playgrounds for little ones. There’s also a watersport facility that includes parasailing equipment available for hire. Once you’re in the water you might be able to spot some sea turtles that are local to the area. Kleopatra Beach has cafes and restaurants all along its coast and some beautiful gardens located just one minute away.
Take in that view
To get the best view of the city and ocean, take a trip to Alanya Kalesi, Alanya’s towering castle. This mighty fortress sits on top of a steep hill. You can reach it by putting on some hiking shoes and braving the incline, or by booking a taxi. If you are walking there are plenty of spots along the way to grab a drink and cool down before you make your way to the top. Alanya’s castle also has an ancient wall attached to it, which you can walk along to gain a panoramic view of the area.
Sail away
If you enjoy getting out onto the water you’ll love all the boating excursions available from Alanya. Boat trips head to Manavgat, peninsulas and numerous sites near Alanya harbour like Pirate’s Cave, Lover’s Cave and Phosphorus Cave. Most of the caves in this area are open for the public to explore, the most popular of which being Dim Cave. This dripstone cave is a natural work of art with steep stairs leading down to an incredible underground lair.
Kids day out
If you’re travelling with kids they’ll love all the fun activities available in Alanya. One of the biggest highlights for the little ones is Water Planet Aqua Park. This waterpark makes for a great day out and is one of the best ways to beat the hot Turkish summer.
The Park has crazy slides, tunnels, water rapids, tub rides and steep slide drops for those brave of heart. There are also wave pools to cool down in and bungee jumping for the big kids in your group. Don’t worry about packing a lunch – there are several little snack bars in the park serving classic kid-friendly meals such as hotdogs and burgers.
For something a little different you can also take the kids to Sandland. This open-air sculpture exhibition is one of the largest events dedicated to sand sculpture in the world and is home to more than 100 works, created by the world’s best sand artists. This exhibit is larger than life and it’s impossible not to marvel at the handiwork of these experts.
Delight your tastebuds
Alanya’s popularity with tourist groups means that there’s a wide variety of cuisines to choose from when it comes to picking a place for dinner. There’s traditional Turkish restaurants serving exceptional Arabic and Mediterranean dishes as well as international venues like American BBQ joints, Chinese, French, Greek, Indian, Italian, Japanese and Mexican. Even kids will be able to choose something they enjoy from the restaurants’ children menus.
