Croatia’s most photographed beach
Brac Island is home to Zlatni Rat- one of the most famous beaches in the Adriatic. Located to the west of harbour town Bol, you’ll find its pebbles stretching out from the crystal-clear coastline, forming a spectacular golden horn shape- a symbol you can expect to see throughout the whole of Croatia.
As one of the top things to do in Croatia – holidaymakers flock here each year to snap a photograph of mother nature’s magnificent landmark and lounge on its smooth white pebbles. Or for those that prefer something a little more active there’s tonnes of water sports to have a go at. We’re talking jet skiing and paddle boarding to wind-surfing and kayaking.
Climb the Dalmatian Islands highest peak
See things from a different angle by climbing Vidova Gora- one of the highest peaks to exist in the entire Dalmatian Islands. Pack your picnic bag and head up 780m to the top where you will enjoy an unforgettable view of Bol town, Hvar Island, and even as far as Italy in the distance if you look really closely.
Choose from accessing the peak by car on a pine forest sealed road, or sweat your way up with a two hour sturdy climb. Temperatures can reach up to a scorching 31 degrees during summer, so you might want to avoid heading up at midday. Instead, time it right and you can catch a memorable sunset, or sunrise if you’re an early bird. Don’t forget to reward yourself when you get back down with an ice-cold can of Croatia’s signature beer- Karlovacko.
An island of unspoilt beauty
The island as a whole is a photographer’s paradise made up of several coastline towns, sleepy villages and a magnificent Mediterranean landscape. Picture a combination of medieval monasteries, pine forests and stone so white that it was used in the construction of the United States’ White House.
The islands two main coastal towns are Supetar and Bol, both of which offer something very different. Supetar- the island’s capital and main entry point has a picturesque harbour and network of antique streets offering an attractive place for a stroll. If you’re all about culture holidays its rich, historical heritage will take you back in time. Give Supetar Cemetery a visit where fascinating sculptural monuments have made it one of the top must-sees on Brac Island.
Bol, Croatia on the other hand takes centre stage as the islands beach holiday destination. Located on the south coast, this former fishing village has transformed into one of Croatia’s must-see towns. Along with its famous beach- Zlatni Rat, follow its tree-fringed promenade into the town centre and you’ll find sea-view restaurants, waterfront wine-tastings and open-air cocktail bars.
The exploring doesn’t stop there, just 6km west of Bol you’ll find the village of Murvica and its tourist attraction- Dragon’s Cave. Here you can go on a guided tour and explore the caves famed for reliefs of dragons. Or head to the islands oldest settlement Skrip where you can visit the olive oil museum- a Dalmatian speciality.
