Picture perfect beaches
The beaches around Buzukata are some of the prettiest on the island, and there are plenty to explore, all within a 20-minute drive from the hamlet. If you want to snorkel, visit Emblisi Beach with its sparkling clear water. Meet the friendly monk seals while swimming at Dafnoudi Beach. And then get off the beaten track near little Alaties, and seek out the magical sights of Agia Jerusalem.
Big screen beauty
Avid readers and film buffs should head to Myrtos Beach – famous for its starring role in Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. With pale cliffs, dazzling white pebbles and shimmering turquoise waters, it’s clear to see how this beach became a romantic idyll. Brave the steep descent and the 30-minute drive, then bed down and wait for the most climactic part of the day – Myrtos’ kaleidoscopic sunset.
A foodie's paradise
Take a ten-minute drive to Fiskardo, and experience great Grecian dishes and drinks for yourself. Fiskardo’s harbourfront is the place to be – especially if you want to try the local specialties: Kefalonian pie and beef sofrito. Sit back, relax and enjoy the views with a glass of Robola, the local dry white wine. For dancing long into the night, head to Fiskardo’s open-air venue, Kastro Club.
Water-filled wonders
Jump in the car for a 50-minute drive to Sami to experience some of Kefalonia’s most beautiful must-see sights. Once a cave that lost its roof to an earthquake, the Melissani Lake shimmers with every shade of blue you can imagine. You can take a boat trip around the stunning feat of nature, and marvel at the leaping, sparkling water. Then, head over to the 150-million-year-old Drogarati Cave and witness the magical sights of its stalactites and stalagmites.
