Lakithra Holidays
This hillside village will transport you back in time and give you a true taste into Kefalonian life. Peruse the traditional Greek bakery, mini markets and authentic tavernas, and mingle with the friendly, welcoming locals. You’re close to some of Kefalonia’s best beaches, too, so you can mix up your sight-seeing, and swap hiking the countryside for sunbathing on soft white sand.
Dare to travel a little further afield
Take advantage of Lakithra’s location and visit its surrounding beaches – as they’re easily some of Kefalonia’s best. Lassi – a 10-minute drive away – is home to two stretches of white sand, Makris Gialos and Platis Gialos. You’ll find plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants there, too. Make sure you head to the capital, Argostoli. It’s 10 minutes to the north, and has everything from designer shops and coffee bars to archaeological museums.
See what all the fuss is about
Head to the most popular stretch of coastline in Kefalonia – Makris Gialos in Lassi. Spend your time snoozing on the sand or eating fresh food in the bordering cafes and restaurants. Or, liven up your day and pick from many watersports. Whether you want to jet-ski, kayak or snorkel, you’ll find everything you need for a fun day out. If you have your own snorkel and mask, remember to pack them – the water is crystal clear and makes for brilliant snorkelling.
Get inspired by the views
Recreate the journey that Lord Byron took on his travels around Greece, and head up into the hills behind Spartia. Sitting high up above the village is Byron’s Rock. Boasting one of the best viewpoints in the area, sit and enjoy the spectacular panoramic sights. Lord Byron was said to have favoured this area, and wrote sonnets as he overlooked the sea.
Embrace the authentic nightlife
The handful of tavernas in Lakithra all serve up delicious Greek dishes, made from fresh, local produce. Regardless of where you choose to eat, you’ll enjoy traditional specialities like Kefalonia meat pie and the region’s dry white wine, Robola. The atmosphere is always super, with local musicians serenading diners most evenings.
