Relaxation is key
Located right on Rhodes’ scenic southeast coast is the small resort of Pefkos. This former fishing village has a laid-back attitude and quiet peaceful presence. Holidays here are all about tranquillity and revitalisation. Most of the accommodation in Pefkos is situated near the Aegean Sea, so you’ll get stunning views over the water from your hotel room.
Everything is within walking distance, and from your hotel you can venture into the town’s centre, consisting of two main streets lined with tavernas and small shops. The slow tempo of this town attracts holidaymakers who are looking for a break from their busy routines. Thrills and wild activities are not really on the menu here, but if you’re in need of some R&R Pefkos is the ideal spot for you.
The beach life
The beach in Pefkos is made up of a narrow strip of silver sand, but there’s still plenty to keep you occupied. The clear waters and gentle breeze makes this beach an ideal venue for watersports including kitesurfing, windsurfing and snorkelling. If you need to, you can rent all equipment and also take lessons. The few rocky coves along the bay make for excellent swimming spots – and you might also catch a glimpse of some underwater creatures.
On the beach itself sunbeds are available for hire – and even fishing boats if you want to venture out on the water. Just across from the beach is a street dotted with Greek tavernas and bars, making it a great spot to fuel up before trying out some of the watersports.
Greek cuisine and friendly drinks
For a small resort Pefkos sure does have some exceptional spots to dine. There’s dozens of beachside restaurants as well as cafes and bars to choose from. Traditional Greek cuisine dominates the main strip but you’ll also find a few Mediterranean and Italian restaurants to eat at.
Because this is a seaside resort, and once a prosperous fishing village, seafood is always on the menu and is brought in fresh from Pefkos’ waters. Specialities include fried octopus and buttery prawns. For a little taste of authentic Rhodes order a glass of koriantolino – an ouzo-based liqueur made with spices and a flower unique to Rhodes.
The nightlife scene in Pefkos is pretty chilled out and is mostly made up of late-night tavernas serving cocktails and drinks after the dinner rush. There’s also a few bars by the seaside where you can sip wine or your choice of beverage under the moonlit sky. Most holidaymakers venture to Pefkos for its scenic and secluded setting, but if you’re after a little more excitement, the city of Lindos is only a 10-minute drive away.
Little shops and local products
Ready to hit the shops? Pefkos has several small gift shops that are ideal for picking up those little souvenirs for back home. You can even purchase some fantastic local handmade goods, including leather, lace and ceramic items.
If you’re staying in Self Catering accommodation there’s also several small supermarkets selling all you’ll need for cheap holidays to Rhodes, including groceries, sun cream and cold drinks.
Set sail and explore the seas
If you’re eager to hit the water Pefkos offers a fantastic glass-bottomed-boat tour from the aptly named Boat Trip road. Here you can set off from the jetty and check out the incredible marine life as you sail. Boat tours navigate around the island of Rhodes and give passengers an up close view of the island’s varied coastline, coves, cliffs and mountains. You can also stop off in the nearby town of Lindos and spend a few hours exploring.
Nightlife next door
The closest town to Pefkos is the lively resort of Lindos, just a 10-minute drive away. You can get there by bus or even one of the glass- bottomed boats. In Lindos you’ll find a lively nightlife scene with numerous night clubs and karaoke joints as well as plenty of shops and restaurants to keep you entertained.
