  • Meander around some museums

Take a 20-minute car journey to the region’s capital, Polygyros, and spend the day diving in and out of museums, and experiencing the traditional architectural feats of blue-topped churches and ornate balconies. Another day trip worth taking is the town of Olynthos. With its mosaic floors and crumbling ruins, there’s plenty of stories to discover in the ancient town.

    Chill out in comfort

Psakoudia’s beach – less than a five-minute walk from the town – is without doubt its greatest feature. With more than two miles of coastline to choose from, you’ve got plenty of space to sprawl out. The soft white sand is ideal for sunbathing, but you have the option to use sun loungers, too. Swimmers will adore the calm waters and gentle waves – and the family-run tavernas on the promenade are perfect for a bite to eat afterwards.

    Become a mountaineer

Make sure you pack a pair of sturdy walking shoes, as you won’t want to miss out on Cholomondas Mountain. Just under an hour’s drive from Psakoudia, this ripe, rich landscape spoils you with its meandering, gentle trails. Pack a bag with plenty of supplies – the remarkable views and sprawling paths are sure to entice you in and prolong your visit. The contrast of exquisite blues from the sea and healthy greens from the mountain’s oak trees is almost too good to be to true.
