Egyptian charm and modern facilities
The picturesque Sharks Bay retains lots of character despite its popularity with holidaymakers. The area provides spectacular views across to Tiran Island and the marina, from which you can go out and explore the coast. Many people are attracted to the area due to its excellent diving and snorkelling opportunities, but don’t worry, there are definitely no sharks in Shark’s Bay.
In a nutshell, Sharks Bay is a family-friendly resort with lots of beachside hotels, restaurants and a few bars dotted around, alongside the aptly named Fun Land Theme Park. Soho Square on the outskirts of Sharks Bay is where you’ll find trendy places to eat and shop, while there’s much more in the way of nightlife and shopping in nearby Naama Bay.
A wraparound bay
Everything included in a Sharks Bay holiday is focused on the shore, with buildings that hug the bay and a manmade beach which uses sand from the desert. Many of the hotels have their own section of beach and can be reached via walkways that pass over the coral shelf. Even though you’ll be close, we’d advise wearing flip flops as the sand can get very hot and some parts of the beach are pebbly.
Superb snorkelling conditions
With some of the best diving and snorkelling spots in the Sharm El Sheikh area, the diving centres here will get you geared up for some fantastic underwater experiences.
You can either explore the marine life in the surrounding area or take a boat out to swim around the sunken British World War II naval ship that resides here. There’s even a wrecked cargo ship near Tiran Island with much of the vessel above water, this can be seen from Sharks Bay Beach.
Even if you don’t hire equipment, you’re free to jump off one of the jetties into the water to see coral reefs and sea creatures. Banana boats, wakeboarding, surfing and water-skiing opportunities are also available within the area.
Quiet evenings or sprightly soirees
Many of the hotels come with places to eat, making Sharks Bay the ideal destination for package holidays to Egypt. But if you decide to try somewhere different, the local restaurants are right along the sand. There are a few little bars in the resort itself, while most people tend to head to Soho Square in the evenings. Around a 20-minute walk away, it houses international restaurants, upmarket bars and clubs alongside home-style pubs. There’s even an ice skating rink and bowling alley here.
If that isn’t enough, Naama Bay’s glitzy nightlife scene of casinos and clubs is just a 15-minute bus ride along the coast, while taxis are also available.
Buy some souvenirs
As well as being a night-time hub, Soho Square has a shopping centre where you can pick up designer brands and fashion clothing. For more of this kind of thing, Nabq Bay has some swish new shopping facilities to explore.
If you’re looking for more authentic Egyptian products or souvenirs to take home, head to the Bedouin bazaar. Here you’ll find stalls selling perfume, slippers, leather goods and gifts that provide a true taste of Egypt. Of course, shopping in bustling Sharm El Sheikhoffers the best of both worlds, with colourful markets and designer boutiques on hand.
Desert, mountains and camel races
Situated on the Sinai peninsula, at Sharks Bay you’re surrounded by sea, mountains and desert. Activities on the desert sands include quad biking or a more traditional camel trip.
Mount Sinai overlooks the resort and houses the oldest functioning church in the world, St Catherine’s. Combine a visit here with a safari that takes you to tribal Bedouin’s desert homes.
