Make Lanzarote your next family adventure
Of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote is the furthest north, making it just over four hours on average from the UK when you fly direct. That means the kids won’t get too antsy on the flight, and you’ll be kicking back in your resort in no time.
The tourism hotbed of Lanzarote is Puerto del Carmen, which also draws the crowds for its sumptuous sunny beach, Playa Blanca. If it’s underwater adventures you’re after, get yourself and the kids splash happy at Costa Teguise, where diving instructors are always ready to help.
Best family friendly beaches
Although Playa Blanca is the most popular beach, families usually head to neighbouring Playa Dorada, which is nestled in a crescent-shaped bay, making the waves smaller for little paddlers. Playa Flamingo is also close by, most easily recognising by its lighthouse, and all three beaches are linked by a promenade that also gives you easy access to snack bars and shopping.
Best family activities in Lanzarote
Puerto del Carmen is where tourists come to play, from Wild West theme park Rancho Texas to the racing thrills of nearby Go Karting Lanzarote. Between Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca is the Aqualava Waterpark, whose slides and rides are inspired by Lanzarote’s volcanic past. There’s also Aqua Park Costa Teguise, which mixes big chutes and waterslides, as well as foam fights. For gentler spirits, head inland to Timanfaya National Park, and cross its dramatic volcanic soil on a camel.
Other popular holidays in the Canary Islands
Remember, Lanzarote is just one of the Canary Islands. If you’d like to check out family deals elsewhere in the Canaries, try Gran Canaria, or Tenerife and La Palma. But if you’re set on a holiday here, take a look at our Lanzarote travel guide for more information on how to plan your perfect family holiday in the sun. Sandos Papagayo Beach Resort
Kids will love the sense of adventure that comes from this Playa Blanca classic, which is perched high enough for sea views on one side and grand mountain landscapes on the other. Sports keep you all active by day and evening performances get you chuckling by night, and if the surroundings give you wanderlust there’s bicycle hire so you can all go explore the sights.
H10 Rubicon Palace
If the kids are coy about their holiday, excite them with three words. Pirate ship waterslide. This Playa Blanca resort features five pools where play is the priority, while the gym, hot tub and massage rooms let parents recuperate too. You’re also just five minutes’ walk from the beach, so sunshine is a constant companion for you and your family.
Occidental Lanzarote Mar
Mediterranean style rooms are met with Mediterranean meals here, and it’s another winner for families. There’s a daily activity programme to get stuck into when you arrive, or you’re all free to try the volleyball, billiards, basketball, climbing wall and mini golf. If that’s all a bit lively, you can instead opt for the piano bar, the TV room or the card games area.
Los Zocos Club Resort
Costa Teguise is known for its relaxing ways, yet this resort keeps young minds engaged. It’s already five minutes’ walk from three pristine beaches, yet the kids’ clubs here serve every age bracket with themed activities and places to play and make new friends, with group fun from videogames to painting.
