Marrakech Last Minute Holidays
This red city makes for the perfect last minute break
A four-hour flight is all it takes to get to Marrakech so you could be haggling at the bazaars or striking up a fun conversation with the local snake-charmers in no time – there’s a huge variety of things to do in Marrakech.
Inhale the fragrant smelling spices at Jemaa el-Fna, one of Africa’s largest market squares, as you explore this bustling city. By day it’s a vibrant square to visit with plenty of haggling to be had, and by night the restaurants light up the night sky.
On the cusp of the Sahara Desert, Marrakech is known as the ‘Red City’ due to the russet colour of the walls that surround it. Mixed between the red buildings are opulent palaces, exquisite mosques, such as Koutoubia, and lush gardens.

Medina Gardens
The adults-only Medina Gardens has a brilliant central location just a 10-minute walk from Koutoubia Mosque, with Jemaa el-Fna sqaure even closer. The hotel has an original Arabic 200-year-old tower set against its otherwise modern features. There are two pools, two restaurants and plenty of daytime activities. Plus the spa is open daily, where services include facials, massages, body wraps and body scrubs.
Riad Dar Sbihi
Set within Marrakech’s medina old quarter, a courtyard garden and rooftop dining are a couple of the authentic Moroccan touches you’ll get here. It has a small pool and a marble-adorned hammam spa for traditional treatments. Only five minutes to local shops and restaurants and a 20-minute walk to the main square, you might just decide to stay put on a deckchair on one of four terraces with Atlas mountain views.
Kenzi Farah Hotel
Set in lovely, well-tended gardens Kenzi Farrah Hotel is an impressive place to stay. It’s hidden away in the quiet and fashionable Hivernage area, so it has a secluded feel but it’s not too far from the hustle and bustle, with Jemaa el-Fna a 20-minute walk away. The Orangery is a buffet dining venue, while waiters in the beautifully decorated Oriental Restaurant serve slow-cooked tagines and spiced couscous to an accompaniment of traditional Gnawa music.
Riad Catalina
The Riad Catalina is a cosy hotel in an 18th-century traditional Moroccan building with a rooftop pool. There are only 12 rooms and three suites so it’s a pleasant place to tuck away from the feverish pace of the centre. You can settle back on the rooftop terrace and soak up the tantalising aroma of the orange trees below or dine at the restaurant serving Moroccan cuisine. If you’d prefer to be in the midst of it all then its only a 15-minute walk to the centre.
Aqua Mirage Club
The Aqua Mirage Club is not for the faint-hearted as it has recently invested in a brand new waterpark complete with a wave machine, inflatables and water slides. A hive of activity, you won’t run out of things to do here, like aerobics, darts and evening discos for a start. Set on the outskirts of Marrakech, a shuttle bus will take you 20 minutes to the city. Suitable for all ages, there are kids’ clubs alongside a spa here.
