Luxury Holidays to Sicily
One of the finest beaches in Sicily, ancient architecture and peaceful hotel settings are why people choose the north of the island for their luxury holidays. Add in world-class fine dining and crystal clear water for snorkelling and you’re set.
Sicily Luxury Holidays
Northern Sicily luxury hotels provide privacy and easy access to Cefalu
Your three-hour flight to Sicily’s Catania Airport will be followed by a two-hour transfer to the luxury resort of Cefalu and its northern neighbours like Campofelice Di Roccella. Many of Sicily’s premium hotels highlight the islands’ natural assets – rugged coastlines, lemon groves and vineyards – so expect some nature and a little seclusion on your holiday.
The historic town of Cefalu on the north coast of Sicily is a favourite spot for luxury holidays with its Norman cathedral and La Rocca ruins. It also has one of the best sandy beaches on the island and restaurants ranging from rustic to Michelin-rated. And nearby villages like Campofelice Di Roccella provide away-from-it-all rural idylls where you can soak in infinity pools.
Living the high life in Sicily
Cefalu’s Lungomare Beach frames the town for five kilometres, and you’ll find a number of excellent family-run trattorias on the water’s edge, as well as in the squares throughout town. Three of Cefalu’s restaurants have received the highest food praise with mentions in the Michelin Guide, including wooden-beamed Nangalarruni, which like many local restaurants serves Sicilian flavours.
The main street, Corso Ruggero, has shops of every description selling local handmade goods, and produce like cheese and Sicilian wine, as well as some excellent boutiques where you can stock up on Italian fashions to fit in with the locals.
You can start a boat trip to the The Aeolian Islands from Cefalu itself or hire watersports equipment and snorkel in the translucent water from many of the out-of-town luxury hotels, which have their own private coves. One of the superb out-of-town experiences in this part of Sicily is staying among the vineyards of Campofelice Di Roccella, where hotels like Masseria Del Piano make full use of the local produce, scenery and atmosphere.

Calanica Hotel
Calanica Hotel’s Polynesian-style bungalows are set in a hillside so all have views over the Tyrrhenian Sea. Though rustic on the outside they’re actually full of modern comforts with kitchenettes, walk-in showers and built-in TVs. Walkways run through the grounds and lead to the outdoor pool and down to the private pebble beach, sunbathing deck and beach bar. The sea-view restaurant serves international and Sicilian cuisine and there’s an al fresco bar on the terrace. In a secluded spot five minutes’ drive from Cefalu, you can play tennis and football at the hotel or rent equipment like bikes, pedalos and canoes.
