A guide to the best beaches in Latchi
The town’s location in the northwest of Cyprus gives access to some of the most stunning coastlines the country offers, from the mythic sands of the Baths of Aphrodite to Latchi Beach itself. You also have the option of taking a short trip to nearby Paphos, where sublime beaches are even more plentiful – but whatever your decision, there’s lots to choose from, with each beach offering something a little different. That said, Cyprus holidays offer tourists some of safest and most family-friendly beaches in the Mediterranean, so you have peace of mind wherever you choose to lay your towel.
Latchi Beach
Also known locally as Latsi Beach, this is a pebbly and scenic spot where the stretch of sand is often quiet. Latchi as a whole is much more laid-back than the likes of Larnaca‘s Nissi Beach or Ayia Napa, so you won’t be competing for the best sunbathing spots or losing the little ones in a crowd of holidaymakers.
That’s not to say that Latchi Beach is anything less than stunning, of course – the sea is a perfect blue, the skies are almost always clear, and the whole area sweeps up past the town of Latchi itself into a gorgeous vista of mountains and greenery. For many visitors to Latchi, this is their first beach after checking in, but some love it so much they stay here their entire trip.
Polis Chrysochous
A little east of Latchi town centre is the Municipal Beach of Polis, also known by the more romantic name of Polis Chrysochous. This wide stretch of inviting sand is popular with tourists, although almost never to the extent that it’s overcrowded. There are loungers and parasols aplenty, as well as sweeping views of the gorgeous natural environment. If you’re on your way into the city or heading eastwards on a Cyprus road trip, it’s a good spot to relax and top up your tan between destinations.
The Baths of Aphrodite
If you really want to get back to nature, make sure you check out this beach while you’re visiting the fabled Baths of Aphrodite. Once you’ve had your fill of towers, columns, domes and myths, you can head down the cliffside for an unspoilt 45-metre stretch of soft Cypriot sand. There are no facilities here, owing to its natural and untouched character, but that only makes it all the more ideal for a picnic or a full-on retreat from the bustle of your fellow tourists.
What’s more, because this beach is so perfectly tucked away behind rocky outcrops and lush greenery, you can lose yourself in a timeless corner of paradise all your own.
Fotiadis Gulf
This beach is a little further out towards Paphos, but well worth the trip. A touch further west than the Baths of Aphrodite, the coastline here is ruggedly beautiful, and more or less untouched by tourists or businesses. You’ll have the opportunity to soak up the rays or watch the sunset with next to no interruption, and you’re close enough to civilisation that you can pop back to town for a bite to eat. What’s more, the sea here is shallow, making it ideal for first time paddlers.
Paradise Beach
If you’re heading east to Pomos, Paradise Beach is definitely worth visiting during Paphos holidays. It’s not far from Latchi, and offers a cosy little cove tucked away in the embrace of some grand grey cliffs. Pebbles and shingle make up most of its surface, but the views of the sea and the cliffside trails can’t be beaten.
