A guide to the best beaches in Menorca
Menorca has some of the most authentic and unspoilt beaches in the Balearic Islands. With see-through waters and long stretches of pure white sand it’s easy to see why cheap holidays to Menorca are a beach lover’s paradise. There are more beaches on Menorca than all of the other Balearic Islands put together, with nearly 700 square kilometres of sand here and over 200 kilometres of coastline, you’ll have no problem finding a beach that suits your needs.
Punta Prima
This Menorca holiday resort is one of the fastest growing on the island. There are shops and bars surrounding its fine white sand and easy parking right next to the beach. Sunloungers and parasols are available for hire and watersports are in full swing here. Because Punta Prima faces south east, this coastline gets the sun first thing in the morning, so make sure to get here early to get a good start on your tan.
Son Bou
Son Bou is the longest beach on Menorca with over two kilometres of fine golden coastline. The gentle sand shelves here make this beach ideal for children who want to paddle in the shallows. There’s also a lifeguard keeping watch. Three beach bars are connected by a promenade and here you’ll be able to grab some quick snacks on the go and a cocktail or two. The west side of this beach is a popular spot for naturists.
Cala Macarella and Macarelleta
Cala Macarella’s clear waters and white sand give this coastline an exotic feel straight from a postcard. There’s a popular beach bar restaurant nearby, but apart from that this spot has a secluded and private feel to it. Macarelleta is a small cove across from Macarella and can be reached on foot or if you’re an avid swimmer, by the sea.
Cala Pregonda
Located on the north side of the island this reddish sandy beach is surrounded by interesting rock formations and tall pine trees. Completely secluded and unspoilt, Cala Pregonda is a hidden gem and you’ll find plenty of space to unwind on a beach towel. There aren’t any facilities here or restaurants, but this stunning coast is an ideal spot for your own picnic.
Cala Mitjana
A three kilometres walk from Cala Galdana is this idyllic south facing cove. Enclosed by spectacular cliffs and pine trees, Cala Mitjana is one of the most beautiful spots in Menorca. The waters here are great for swimming and snorkelling, but it’s a bit of a walk from the car park to the beach so if you have mobility issues another beach may be better suited to you.
Cala Galdana
The horseshoe shaped bay at Cala Galdana is known as the ‘Queen of Calas’, and if you’re planning a family holiday to Menorca then this might be the beach for you. There are some great facilities here with beach bars and restaurants lining the coast as well as a host of watersports taking place like scuba diving. This beach can get pretty busy in the summer months so try to get there early and nab one of the best spots before the crowds appear.
