A guide to the best restaurants in Las Palmas
There are well over 1,000 restaurants to try on a holiday in Gran Canaria‘s capital, Las Palmas, with many spilling out onto the streets at popular spots like Triana. There are also plenty of Canteras eateries where you’re guaranteed a sea view. With cuisine ranging from Thai to sushi and Lebanese to pizza, alongside Canarian and Spanish favourites – you certainly won’t go hungry here.
A taste of Spain and Italy at Kitchen Lovers
In the Las Canteras Beach area, Kitchen Lovers stands out for its stylishly-presented dishes that combine Spanish and Italian flair.
You’ll need to book ahead here, and for something extra special, you could always ask for a window table to make the most of the views. The winning choice is the €30 four-course tasting menu, or standalone options include ravioli, pork belly and seafood.
The Canarian way at Tasca Galileo
The atmospheric wood-clad interior at Tasca Galileo gives you a gist of how authentic the food is here, while the wall of wine cupboards is a nod to the variety and quality of tipples on offer. Choose cured meats and tapas to share or go for the steak – just be sure to leave room for the hearty puddings.
Affordable food at 180 Grados Fine Food
For a place that names itself Fine Food, this spot is remarkably affordable. Serving fast food with a twist, everything is freshly made, from the nachos to the Thai noodle salad, the veggie burgers and the Bombay chicken. Right by the beach, it’s a great place to refresh before heading back to your sunlounger.
The best steakhouse in town at El Buho Tuerto
There are a few delicious Latin American steakhouses in Las Palmas, but El Buho Tuerto pips the post as the best. The quality of the meat is the highlight, and with steaks for around €12 to €15, this restaurant is great value too.
Varied cantina dishes at La Bikina
A small cantina with a fun vibe, La Bikina has a small but eclectic menu produced by its Spanish chef and Indonesian cook. They serve great homemade burgers and fries, authentic Thai dishes, as well as tacos and samosas, which can be vegetarian. Sit with a Tropica beer on the prom-side terrace to soak up the beach views.
Fit for a king at Casa Montesdeoca
If it’s good enough for King Juan Carlos himself, it’s good enough for a special occasion meal. This place is an ideal setting for romantic dinners with its beautifully converted 16th century merchant’s house with a patio overlooked by ornate balconies, dripping with foliage. Sumptuous specialities include prime sirloin steak and spicy cod.
Beachside lunch at El Rincon Aragones
A perfect lunchtime spot for family meals, El Rincon Aragones sits just across from a beach playground, so when the kids get restless they can stretch their legs as you finish off your glass of wine. Just €8 for a set three-course lunch and a drink, you could also order tapas or go for one of the best paellas in town.
A taste of the Middle East at El Rincon Libanes
Away from the main tourist area, this great value Lebanese restaurant serves marinated and grilled meats with salad, rice, dips and flatbreads. The falafel and aubergine stuffed with caramelised onion are also favourites. Wash your meal down with a glass of mint tea, served from an ornate metal teapot.
Canarian with a twist at Aramara Restaurante
If you want to try local Canarian dishes in style, Aramara is the one. Set in an old house in the quieter part of Las Palmas, some of the food has to be seen to be believed, like a deconstructed Spanish omelette served in a jar for instance.
For a more conventional choice there’s the succulent pluma Iberica cut of pork, which tastes even better when paired with wine.
Tapas with the locals at La Travesia De Triana
This small tapas bar is popular with locals for its mouth-watering tapas, but don’t forget to go for an early-evening drink first. Choose your plates from a board on the wall and share away.
Watch in awe as hams hanging from the ceiling are sliced in front of you, or if that doesn’t take your fancy opt for things like tuna salad and grilled octopus.
