A guide to the best restaurants in Troulos
Troulos is located on the island of Skiathos. A more traditional destination for your Greek island holiday, this beach resort features plenty of tavernas serving meze, seafood specialist restaurants and beachside eateries.
Smart and proper at Salt and Pepper
First up on the list is the consistently well-received restaurant, Salt and Pepper. Salt and Pepper is a top choice if you are looking for a change from the usual taverna fare on Skiathos holidays, as its menu boasts Greek dishes with an added international flavour which elevates them no-end. You’d be best off booking a table as Salt and Pepper is very popular.
Hearty traverna fare at Rataouille
If you find yourself feeling seriously hungry after a long hard day in the Mediterranean sun, then there’s no better bet than the big portions at Ratatouille. The generous mixed grill is well worth it if you’re looking to channel your inner carnivore. If you aren’t a meat eater, don’t worry, this taverna boasts an extensive, yet reasonably-priced menu so there should be something for everyone. Ratatouille straddles the line between taverna and restaurant, and is worth booking!
Great vibes at Christakis Sports Bar and Taverna
Christakis’ is an easy-going hangout spot; blessed with two bars and a taverna bordering a pool. Although sport is in the name, this place is much more than just football matches. There is a great choice of drinks at reasonable prices as well as a nice family feel under the stewardship of Chris, but it is the food that is the real winner here. Open all day and into the night, you can chow down on a traditional English breakfast in the morning or a pizza at night – oh, and you’re welcome to utilise the pool and sunloungers.
Seaside Views at snack-bar Zaharo
Wanting to grab a bite without heading in land from the sun-blushed beach? Then head to Zaharo’s, where you can sip down a Mythos or Alfa beer and munch on some unfussy classic Greek dishes like Greek salad, tzatziki and pitta, all at minimal expense. There is also a lovely view of the sea too.
Great variety at Victoria
Victoria is an excellent choice whether you’re in a couple, a group of friends or a young family. Overlooking the Victoria complex pool, the restaurant offers friendly service and great-quality food spanning Greek, British and Asian culinary traditions. The owners Vasilis and Asaya will treat you like old friends and the atmosphere here rocks with a friendly mixture of Greeks and tourists.
The real Greek experience at Sunrise Taverna
This place is a little off-the-beaten-track but you’ll be happy you got there. The restaurant boasts good portion sizes at friendly prices, and there is affable staff on hand to aid in your choosing of their sumptuous wines. There’s also swings and slides outside the restaurant, so it’s a good choice if you have youngsters. With fantastic Greek fare and gourmet pizzas too, sunrise is a great choice.
Spectacular scenes at Nectar and Ambrosia
Sat aloft a sprawling valley, Nectar and Ambrosia provides gorgeous cuisine for real foodies and equally-special views. Once you get there, having maneuvered your way over several steep steps, you can enjoy a more traditionally-Greek taverna than most others in the sub region and a suitably welcoming atmosphere. Try the mussel saganaki to start and the lamb shank or the pork en papillote for the main – and make sure to treat yourself to a pudding, as they are to die for!
Entirely authentic Greek experience at Taverna Vareli
The welcoming owners at Vareli help foster a unique vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere which means it’s a cut above your usual Skiathos diner. Here you can find some top homemade Greek cooking and at reasonable prices too.
Get cosy at Kalivi Taverna
Kalivi offer a small menu but everything they do serve is well executed and honest cooking. Again on the more traditional side of the taverna spectrum, Kalivi is a homely and family-run place with Greek music and ambience aplenty.
Beachside snacking at Taverna Troulos
A similar sort of deal to Zaharo, if you are looking to dine and drink without leaving the beach, Taverna Troulos is a great shout. It’s not an overly-posh restaurant but the atmosphere is friendly and kids can play on the beach if they’d rather. You won’t get much better views on Skiathos at sundown than at Taverna Troulos.
