Sun, Sand and Surf Our Guide to the Best Beaches In Cyprus

There’s so much to do in Cyprus with its wealth of attractions, but when you do manage to catch your breath you begin asking, which are the best beaches in Cyprus to relax on? Or, what if you want to do watersports? Well, Cyprus has some of the best beaches to give you the best of both worlds.

Did you know there are more than thirty diving sites around Ayia Napa as well as a number of 5 star PADI diving schools?

Cyprus has an amazing climate with plenty of sunshine throughout the year, so here is the lowdown on where to go to enjoy the best beaches in Cyprus.

Nissi Beach – Ayia Napa

On the south east coast of Cyprus, down by the quieter part of Ayia Napa, you’ll find the ultimate place to relax. Nissi beach is by far one of the most beautiful and popular beaches across the whole island, and for good reason. Chilled out tunes can be heard from the beach bar and there’s a range of watersports on the go, from paragliding to jetskis.

The beach here stretches for 500 metres and has been awarded a Blue Flag – you can see why. There’s a great selection of places to eat and drink around this area too, as well as a range of boat trips to choose from.

Where to eat? It has to be Atlas Italian. Here you can sample fresh squid laced in spicy tomato sauce and tiramisu for dessert. And if you’re planning a wedding here they also do amazing wedding cakes. Alternatively, Zaatar Lebanese & Syrian Restaurant is the place to try a Cypriot meze – lots of different meats, salads and dips.

Coral Bay – Paphos

North of the city of Paphos, sits Coral Bay beach. This is an extremely popular tourist destination in the town of Peyia and is an amazing spot for families due to its sandy beaches, which are great for building sandcastles. It has also been awarded a Blue Flag so you can expect a stunning shoreline.

Coral Bay is one of the best beaches in Cyprus for couples in the Paphos area with its beautiful sunsets. That’s no all, keen walkers will also enjoy this beach as it offers a picturesque landscape all the way along the cliffs.

Where to eat? Oniro By The Sea stands out for us. You will find snacks and light meals here as well as a whole host of delicious cocktails. And surrounded by amazing views this is a truly unique spot. Why not try a lamb wrap with wedges and wash it down with a passion fruit Mojito?

Or, Tzianavaros Mediterranean Food and Mood is another great choice. Opt for the rib eye steak with mushroom sauce followed by a chilled glass of red wine. It’s a firm favourite!

Konnos Bay – Cape Greco

This beach sits in between Ayia Napa and Protaras and is another of Cyprus’ many Blue Flag beaches. Close to the National Forest Park of Cavo Greco, this small quiet bay is great if you’re looking for an away-from-it-all setting.

There aren’t many waves here, so it’s one of the best beaches in Cyprus for little ones who want to go paddling in calm waters. For this reason it is not a great choice for anyone who likes to surf. This spot is also a popular place to watch the cliff divers – that’s right, these adrenaline junkies leap several metres into the sea on a daily basis. It’s an adventure seeker’s dream!

Where to eat? Nameless Bar and Restaurant where we recommend the delicious fish and chips. Or, there’s Quadro Restaurante which cooks up a beautiful spinach ravioli and a range of delicious pizzas.

Ayia Thekla Beach – Ayia Napa

3 kilometres west of Ayia Napa and home to one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen is Ayia Thekla. Yes, this beach looks exactly like the beaches you see in the brochures, with its talcum powder white sand and shallow waters. This is also a stunning wedding spot – can you imagine the pictures?

The beach is named after a tiny church located nearby (pictured above) and is a popular spot for kite surfers and paragliders. And if you happen to go on a Wednesday morning the beach bar holds a weekly market. Here, you can see why this spot has secured its place on our list of the best beaches in Cyprus.

Where to eat? Taverna Ploumin is our pick with its gorgeous Kleftiko – this Cypriot favourite is basically lamb and potatoes baked in the oven.

Lady Mile Beach – Limassol

Lady Mile Beach

Popular with kite surfers and windsurfers, this dark sand beach may not be the typical white sandy beach that you’re used to seeing in holiday brochures. But this doesn’t matter, because it’s great for families with little ones as the water is shallow and ideal for feeding the fish.

Where to eat? Captain’s Cabin/Golden Beach, this is a great option if you love fresh fish.

Fig Tree Bay – Protaras

Stunning white sands and rocky coves await you at this beach. The beach is safe for families, but can get very busy on weekends so make sure you get there early as you may struggle to find a sunbathing spot. Plenty of water sports are on offer here for those looking for an adventure such as water skiing, windsurfing and para sailing.

Where to eat? Scarabeo – The huge homemade burgers are a great option if you want to stay fuller for longer. Alternatively, try Blue Spice and their spicy Aztec chicken burger.

In a nutshell, out of all the beaches in Cyprus, Protaras and Ayia Napa tend to be better for white sand lovers , so if you’re trying to capture that Instagram selfie head here. Beaches in Cyprus are free to the public but most charge for sunbeds and parasols.
