A guide to nightlife in Lanzarote

Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen is the nightlife hub of the island favoured with the glow stick crowd. The main entertainment centres here are the Centro Atlantico on the Avenida de las Playas, the main strip and the ‘Old Town’. Because bars are close together on the main strip it makes for the perfect place for a bar crawl, ending in Cesar’s – a club that attracts big names DJs from across Europe.

If clubbing doesn’t appeal however, do not fear. The Old Town has more of a Spanish feel to it, serving tapas along with great live music. You’ll also find countless Irish pubs as well as Betty Boops, which is popular with tourists. This friendly bar offers karaoke and pool bundled up with a large dose of British humour.

Playa Blanca

Nightlife in Playa Blanca is a little more subdued than Puerto del Carmen but just as varied. In fact, it’s the laid back vibe that brings people back to Playa Blanca year after year – a newly-developed resort that is growing fast. In the main town you’ll find Spanish and British restaurants as well as excellent fresh seafood.

There’s karaoke and disco at the Centro Comercial, offering carefree fun. There are also Irish bars, of course, for those nights you just want to watch the football over a pint.

Costa Teguise

As a popular tourist spot, bars in Costa Teguise have a family focus with karaoke and sports screens providing much of the evening entertainment. It’s not the liveliest place but you will find a few decent venues for some serious dancing past 12am.

Jesters and Krazy Lounge are particularly popular for cheap drinks and cheap thrills in the form of late night karaoke and disco vibes. If you want to escape all that try a jazz bar – Jazz Mi Madre has live tunes most nights of the week.

One place you must try after dark is Pueblo Marinero, an area of the town designed by the famous local architect Cesar Manrique. Visit the market here in the day and you’ll have no idea of the way it transforms once the sun sets. With a buzzy atmosphere spilling from the bars, this friendly cluster of venues is the best place to while away a warm evening in great company.

Arrecife

Arrecife, the capital of this modest island. As the cultural and business centre of Lanzarote, Arrecife isn’t thought of as a prime spot for nightlife, and doesn’t pull in as many tourists as other cheap holiday destinations in Lanzarote, but it’s a wonderful place to visit. Go in the day for galleries and mall shopping, and stay after dark for tapas and sangria. An evening here gives you the authentic Spanish experience – it is loud yet refined and will make you feel most welcome.
