Egypt is a great place to visit as a family, the hotels are grand and beautiful, and they have so many great facilities for families with children. But with so many to choose from, it can be hard to whittle it down and pick your favourite one. We’re here to help! Here’s four of our ultimate favourites.
Coral Sea Water World
Water babies will love Coral Sea Water World – as well as being on the beautiful beach, it’s got two huge pools and a waterpark. The aquapark at Coral Sea Water World is on site so, a splashing good time is just footsteps away. The water rides have names like Night Rider, Freefall, Turbulence and Twilight Zone and include tube slides that snake their way downhill, multi-lane racing slides and a bowl-shaped vortex. Younger swimmers have a pirate-themed splash pool where they can scramble up and over the water, then slide back in. And a lazy river gently meanders around the park area, too.
If you want to take some time away from the water, but you still enjoy keeping active on holiday, then there’s plenty of activities throughout the hotel to keep you entertained. You can get stuck into team sports such as tennis and basketball, and you can also try your hand at beach volleyball. Down at the beach, other activities like windsurfing and snorkelling are also available, at an extra charge.
When you need to refuel after a busy day of whizzing down slides or getting stuck into sports, the food scene here has got you covered! The buffet restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, with cuisine from around the world. There’s a kids’ buffet, too, and an outdoor area if you fancy dining al fresco. You’ll be able to visit the Italian and Asian à la carte restaurants once per week, free of charge, during your stay. You’ll receive full waiter service, with a 3-course menu and All Inclusive drinks.
Evenings are a relaxed affair here at Coral Sea Water World. Entertainment comes in the way of low-key local acts and there’s a great mini disco for kids. The hotel entertainment team also hosts bingo and quiz nights if you fancy a bit of healthy competition. When you’re all partied out and ready for your head to hit a comfy pillow, you can retire to your gorgeous and welcoming room. All rooms come with air-conditioning, tea and coffee-making facilities, a TV, safe and a fridge. And you’ll have a balcony or terrace, too. Deluxe double rooms and 1 and 2 bedroom family rooms have a partition for extra privacy. Some 2 bedroom family rooms also have a den for little ones.
Jaz Makadi Saraya Splash Resort
Jaz Makadi Saraya Splash Resort is nestled right in the heart of Madinat Makadi, where the white sands and beautiful waters of the Red Sea are only ever a five-minute walk away. The resort has an amazing 6 pools, plus you get unlimited access to Makadi Water World which is only 2.5km away from the hotel. You can hop aboard a free shuttle to get here! This water park has 50 different slides for both kids and adults – a 19-metre free-fall slide, tube tunnels, a kamikaze and a multi-lane racer are just some of the attractions on offer. There’s a water play area, too, that has a pirate theme just for the little ones.
If you like to keep yourself busy during the day, you can try your hand at basketball and tennis, or you can opt for something a little more laidback like billiards, shuffleboard and table tennis. Three kids’ playgrounds are available around the hotel and there’s a sandy play area in the kids’ club. Two of them are shaded if your little ones need a little bit of time out of the sunshine. After dark, the line-up is pretty low-key, with cabarets, live music and dancing, and weekly folklore shows. Kids get a mini-disco 6 times a week.
Foodies can eat their hearts out here – you have a choice of two tasty buffet restaurants, as well as four a la carte’s, which come at an extra charge. The buffet restaurants serve up breakfast, lunch and dinner with a different theme every night and separate kids’ buffets. Highchairs and kids’ menus are available on request. A la carte dining is available at The Grill, Makai Tukai, Nino’s and the Egyptian a la carte. You must make a reservation at all of the a la carte spots.
The spa is worth writing home about – it’s got a massive 23 treatment rooms, and comes with a sauna, steam room and whirlpool bath. We definitely recommend you book yourself in for a treatment if you can, it’s the perfect place to relax during a busy holiday! Another cosy place to relax is of course your peaceful room. You can expect a balcony or terrace, air-conditioning, TV and Wi-Fi in all rooms. Double rooms are available. For a larger party there are also family rooms, junior suites, plus 1 or 2 bedroom apartments.
Jaz Makadi Aquaviva
Just like Jaz Makadi Saraya Splash Resort, Jaz Makadi Aquaviva also has unlimited access to Makadi Water World. Along with access to an amazing waterpark that has 50 different slides for both adults and kids, the hotel has a great pool scene too. There are five beautiful outdoor numbers to choose from, some of which are heated from 15th November to 31st March. One’s reserved for adults too, and you’ll find it on the rooftop – utter bliss.
Golf fans will be pleased to know there’s a championship 18 hole golf course nearby, which comes with lakes, waterfalls and views of the Red Sea. The golf course also has a driving range and a pro shop. The rest of the sports line-up includes volleyball, squash and tennis courts. Down at the beach, you can hire snorkelling gear or sign up for a dive with the scuba school. Entertainment wise, shows and folklore nights laid on in the evenings. And there’s a bar in the lobby for late-night cocktails, after midnight drinks are at an extra cost.
The main restaurant takes the buffet approach, so you can pick and mix international dishes and Egyptian specialities. Once you’ve worked up an appetite in the waterpark, there’s a snack place serving quick bites like sandwiches, pizza and ice-cream. Jaz Makadi Aquaviva also has a ‘dine around’ concept, which gives you the option to dine once per week at one of the Madinat Makadi à la carte restaurants around the resort that are also part of the concept. You’ll be able to choose from the Makai Tukai, Sofra, Amaya, Nino’s, Aqua, The Grill and Beach restaurants. They offer up a range of cuisines, including Asian, Indian, Italian and Mediterranean. To take part in the Dine Around concept, you’ll need to make a reservation at your hotel’s reception two days in advance.
When arriving at a hotel, one of the most exciting things is getting to check out your room for the first time. The rooms here at Jaz Makadi Aquaviva really do have that ‘wow’ factor which makes your jaw drop as the door opens. There’s a warm and inviting feel to the rooms here. They all come with air-conditioning, satellite TV, and a balcony or terrace for that bit of outside space. You can choose a twin or upgrade to a swim-up superior twin room which gets you direct access to a pool. Family rooms are also available which have extra sofa-beds in the lounge area.
Jaz Lamaya Resort
The Jaz Lamaya Resort is one of Egypt’s best-kept secrets. This stylish hotel puts you on the edge of a sandy beach and a beautiful coral reef. And it’s got three big outdoor pools too, which look out to the bay. Two of them are heated in winter, and there’s a children’s pool, too. Thatched shelters create some welcome shade, and there’s a bar for drinks and ice-creams. Free entry to the Aqua Coraya waterpark in Madinat Coraya is included in your package. You’ll find flying boat slides, a space boat and an aqua tube. Overall, expect a whopping 31 waterslides in total, 19 for adults and 12 for children, with splash pools for youngsters, too.
The Red Sea is home to some of the finest coral reefs in the world – and you’ve got direct access to them from the jetty on the beach. There’s a diving centre on the sand where you can sign up for scuba diving lessons. The gardens are home to two floodlit tennis courts. There’s a squash court at the Coraya Hotel, too, as well as beach volleyball and archery. And in the pool, there’s water polo and aqua aerobics. There’s live entertainment six nights a week, with everything from professional singers to more exotic acts like fire-eaters. There’s also a supervised, hotel-run entertainment programme for children aged 4 to 12 years as well as a youth club for 13 to 17 year olds.
You’ll be able to fill your boots with delicious treats at Jaz Lamaya Resort! The buffet restaurant comes with a big al fresco terrace. At breakfast you can order eggs how you like them. And in the evenings there’s a carvery and a barbecue station with show cooking. The beachside restaurant is a great spot for a light lunch or daytime snack. The homemade burgers and pizzas are particularly popular, and it has a fantastic seafood menu, too. The Dine Around concept here also gives you the option to dine once per week at one of the à la carte restaurants around the resort that are also part of the concept. You’ll be able to choose from à la carte restaurants at the Jaz Dar El Madina, Jaz Solaya and Jaz Samaya. To take part in the Dine Around concept, you’ll need to make a reservation at your hotel’s reception one day in advance.
If your idea of a perfect holiday isn’t complete without a relaxing trip to the spa, you’ll be glad to know the hotel has a great one! The spa comes with a big whirlpool bath, a sauna, and a gym if you feel like working up a bit of a sweat. You can book yourself in for massages or even a couple of beauty treatments. When it comes to relaxation, serenity doesn’t just stop at the spa. Rooms are utter tranquillity here at Jaz Lamaya Resort. You can get a double room, with some offering a sea view, and superior upgrades are available.
