Saharan sand boarding

Think snowboarding, but instead of snow it’s sand and you’ll be under the warm Moroccan sun. If you want to give this thrilling sport a whirl you’ll need to head to Merzouga in the Sahara Desert where you can board down the mighty Erg Chebbi dunes, which stand up to 150 metres high.

Due to its distance from Marrakech, most visitors incorporate this adrenaline-filled ride with a desert tour from the capital, sleeping in Berber tents at the foot of the dunes and packing in a camel trek at the same time. Travel by camel

Camels have been used for centuries as transport in Morocco and you’ll have plenty of opportunities during your trip to take part in an exciting camel trek.

A sunset tour will take you from Marrakech and explore the Palmeraie, a picturesque palm grove adjacent to the city, stopping for a cup of mint tea with a Berber family. Or you can head further afield and spend the day at the foot of the Atlas Mountain range.

Canyoning in the Ourika Valley

Marvel in the Medinas

Medina’s are a must visit wherever you’re on holiday, but a Medina in Morocco is even more of a must-do. Here, you have several to choose from which makes it even better. The experience of the Medinas comes from being there, not from buying things, so it’s one of the best things to do in Morocco for free.

The Medina of Marrakech is the most visited in the country and is known as the beating heart of the city. Once you step through the entrance you’ll be in awe of everything on offer. From bazaars and souks to traditional cafes and Riads, it’s like a city of its own. Head to the baazar and simply lose yourself as you walk up and down, round and round, passing all the stools offering handmade goods and fresh spices among so much more.

Casablanca Medina is another popular pick, and offers the same traditional Moroccan magic as Marrakech, but at a slower pace. Here, it tends to be less busy so you can take all the time you need to chat with the locals or pick up some souvenirs. You’ll also find branded boutiques in the Medina so you’re not limited to the bazaar
