Saving money is very hard to do when you either have a spending habit or a very small budget to work with, or a combination of the two.
We all know that the cost of living is rising, and as it does, you may find it harder and harder to stretch your budget to include a holiday. But worry not. There are still plenty of tips and tricks that savvy holiday goers are using in order to take their family on a holiday. Yes – it can be done.
Here are 12 easily digestible money saving tips…
1. Start saving your small change
Every night before bed get the whole family to stash their small change in a coin jar. It’s amazing how much you can collect.
2. Book early
If you book your holiday as early as you can, most tour operators will take a deposit. This gives you more time to save and the fact you’ve committed to something will make you more determined to pay for it. Most will let you pay a bit off as and when you can, so that when the balance is due, there isn’t so much to pay all in one go.
3. Reduce your household bills
Check comparison sites to make sure you’re getting the very best deals. If not then make the switch.
4. Sign up to one of the many special offer websites
These are great for knowing where the best deals are, but don’t be tempted to buy something just because it’s cheap or on offer. Only look at them when you know you need something. We find them great around Christmas time for getting some really cheap gifts.
5. Save up reward points or cash back credit
If you belong to a reward or cash back scheme then try to save the rewards to go towards holiday items or spending money.
6. Create a budget planner
You can save money just by cutting down on eating out for dinner for a couple of months or getting takeaways. By creating a budget planner you can see exactly where your money is going and where you can make cut backs.
7. Shop Around
If you are planning a fun-filled holiday and want to buy entertainment or park tickets, check the prices before you go and compare them with getting them locally, you might find them cheaper in the UK.
8. Get the kids to help
See if the kids can get extra money from other relatives or friends for doing chores. If they’re old enough they may be able to get a seasonal or weekend job. It’s never too early for them to learn.
9. Check you are getting the best deal for your holiday
Holiday Hypermarket searches all the major tour operators and you can make huge savings on brochure prices. Sign up to our social media sites and emails so you’re aware of any special offers or voucher codes.
10. Open a dedicated savings account
They’re a great tool to keep your budget in check and for making your money work for you. When working out how much you need to save try to remember to include spending money and emergency funds too.
11. Save money and help save the planet at the same time
Do you leave your computer on all night? Forget to turn the lights out when you leave the room? If you plead guilty to any of these, then just try to remember how much money you can save on your energy bills by turning them off when not in use. You’ll be surprised!
12. Check your cupboards
Check your cupboards and freezer before you do your grocery shop for a week. This is so you can be sure you don’t over shop for things you don’t need. You may find you can make enough meals for the week with what you already have. Then put the savings toward your holiday fund. Imagine you could soon be eating here…
