The Costa del Sol might be a spot to catch some sun and some sleep, but it’s also somewhere you can catch a few celebs on holiday.
Swish resorts like Marbella, Puerto Banus and Benahavis have been attracting the likes of film stars, musicians and real life royalty ever since they hit the holiday maps.
So the next time you find yourself on these star-studded shores, here’s who you should be on the lookout for.
Marbella and Puerto Banus
Marbella is without a doubt the number one spot in the Costa del Sol to celebrity-spot. Just check out the marina alone and you’ll see designer shops and crazy-big yachts.
Stretching out down the coast to Puerto Banus is what’s known as The Golden Mile, a platinum-plated waterfront with expensive villas and mega mansions fit for the rich and the famous.
Antonio Banderas
This Spanish actor best known as the masked outlaw Zorro, was actually born not far up the coast in Malaga, and now owns a home in Marbella he once shared with his former wife, Melanie Griffith. He’s a huge advocate for Spanish products, and can be frequently spotted at events around town.
Eva Longoria
The Desperate Housewives star is regularly seen jetting around Marbella and Puerto Banus, hitting shops, events and clubs with her husband. You’ll know she’s either come or gone by the trail of paparazzi following her.
Dolph Lundgren
We know him best as Rocky’s formidable foe Ivan Drago in the film Rocky IV, but this Swedish actor has made his way back to the big screen recently with a repeat role in The Expendables.
He and his now ex-wife were actually married in Marbella, and moved on to own a home there. They and the family still regularly visit, and can be spotted on the shores here from time to time.
Simon Cowell
This X Factor and American Idol judge is yet another famous face to own a villa in Marbella – you might recognise his property’s pool in the background of One Direction’s initial X Factor footage.
The property is located off The Golden Mile, but you’ll still have the odd chance of spotting a black car carrying TV’s wriest figure.
Benahavis
While Benahavis doesn’t have the flash of Marbella and Puerto Banus, it certainly doesn’t lack in beauty or upscale amenities.
Things here are much more laid-back than its other Costa del Sol counterparts, tucked up into the mountains and staring out to sea. It’s here that celebs come to shake off the paparazzi and find a truly relaxed getaway.
Rod Stewart
Heartthrob singer Rod Stewart first made his name with The Jeff Beck Group and went onto super-stardom with his solo career – he’s even a ‘sir’ now. Stewart owns a massive villa fit for a king in the Benahavis neighbourhood of La Zagaleta, a resort known for its luxury-lined land.
Vladimir Putin
You don’t have to be a celebrity of the film or music variety to own property in this corner of Spain, as it’s also home to political biggies.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has cordoned off his own piece of the Costa del Sol with a mega mansion in the La Zagaleta neighbourhood, complete with his very own vineyard.
