Senegal is a stunning and peaceful slice of paradise on the west coast of Africa. It may not be the first destination you think of when you picture beach holidays, but it’s a hidden gem that you should certainly add to your travel bucket list. Join us as we take a closer look at spectacular Senegal and all the wonders it has to offer…
Beautiful Scenery In Senegal
One thing that springs instantly to mind when we think of Senegal is jaw-dropping scenery. Tranquil beaches and tropical rainforests are separated by sprawling grasslands that cover the majority of the country. Whether you’re having a lazy beach day or you’re venturing out on a once-in-a-lifetime safari to spot Senegal’s wildlife, your surroundings will be a treat for the eyes. Don’t forget to pack your camera!
Things To Do In Senegal
While many tourists visit Senegal simply to chill out on luxurious beaches and switch off from the norm in baking hot sun, it’s not short of fun and interesting things to do. One of our first recommendations would be to embark on a safari. You’ll hop on a truck and be chauffeured around the country’s wild animal hotspots, where you’ll see the likes of giraffes, lions, rhinos and ostriches in their natural habitat. Something like this is truly a fascinating experience, so make sure you bring it to the top of your Senegal to-do list!
Want to see something completely out of the ordinary? Take a trip to the Pink Lake, a dazzling body of water with pinky-lilac hues that change throughout the day. The salty Lac Rose (as locals call it) is home to a micro-algae called dunaliella salina, which is what makes the water glow pink. It’s especially bright when given a big dose of sunlight, which luckily Senegal gets plenty of! You can take guided tours to this amazing spot, and on some tours you’ll even get to take a dip. An experience you’ll never forget!
If you love exploring new cities, we recommend you visit the beautiful capital of Dakar on your holiday to Senegal, where striking beauty is combined with bustling markets, vibrant streets and electric nightlife. You’ll find plenty of organised trips to Dakar, which will give you some time to wander the streets, take in the views and browse shops and cafes before heading back with your group. Whilst the hotels are so fabulous you needn’t leave them, it’s great to get out there and see a bit more of the country and its culture.
