It’s no secret that the Balearic Islands are home to some truly spectacular beaches. However, some of them are a little off-the-radar. There are so many beaches in Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca that are often deserted as they’re not by main resorts and not easily reachable by public transport. If you hire a car on your holiday, you could stumble across a peaceful slice of sand and have it to yourself for the afternoon. What could be better?

Whilst we love heading out on group excursions on our holidays, it’s so nice to be able to explore your destination without having to think too much about timings and meeting points. Having a hire car in the Balearics will mean you have all the time in the world to make your way to your chosen spots, or even to just drive through beautiful country landscapes, taking in the scenery and seeing where you end up. If you’re an explorer at heart, the freedom that comes with hiring a car will make your holiday extra special.
3. See a different side to the islands
Naturally, we picture sweeping, delicate sands and gentle waves dancing in sun rays when we think of islands like Majorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. The beaches are the main attraction on these Spanish islands. However, there’s so much more to explore away from the coast. The rugged, colossal mountains are a sight to behold, and there are endless opportunities for outdoor adventure that’ll get your adrenaline pumping. Think gorge walks, caving, quad biking tours – you name it! Adventure seekers will find much more to the Balearics than first meets the eye.
4. Hop from town to town, discovering places many won’t
Quite often, you’ll only leave your hotel on holiday to wander around the local area and make your way to the beachfront. When you have a car, you open up the door to so much more. You’ll be able to drive to picturesque towns and try out authentic cuisine among the locals. If you’re visiting Majorca, for example, you could drive around 20 minutes from the capital of Palma and find yourself visiting Valldemossa, a small village in the Tramuntana mountains. Holidaying in Menorca? There are plenty of beautiful spots to stop at, one being the traditional fishing village of Binibeca. The list goes on!
5. See the best sunset views in locations off the beaten track
Finally, what’s a holiday without some glowing sunset views? There’s something so romantic about a sunset over the Med, and it’s even more dreamy when you’re in a picturesque, secluded location. Having a car gives you the freedom to drive to whichever beach or viewpoint you please at dusk, and believe us – there are plenty to choose from! Some of our favourite places to watch the sunset in the Balearics include Es Vedra in Ibiza and Sa Foradada in Majorca.
