We flew to Tunisia from Manchester with First Choice in January and thought the company was faultless. The reps in resort were spot on, and the hotel staff, not affiliated with First Choice, were also very good.
We stayed in the Royal Kenz Hotel in Port El Kantaoui, a hotel solely catering for adults. This was great as there were no children running around or shouting. Everything was just calm, peaceful and quiet; bliss. As much as I love children, I don’t need them splashing me in the pool, thanks! The hotel was just stunning.
Our room was extremely bright and airy, big too, with a striking sea view and the little added extras, such as bathrobes drink making facilities, made us feel that little more special. The facilities on the complex were again first class. They had two outdoor swimming pools in addition to an indoor pool, which was handy for a revitalising morning quite fresh early in the day. The food was tasty, with so much variety. It was all fresh, too. There were four different areas for eating and drinking and it was nice to have a choice of venue, even within the complex, especially if you didn’t want to go out and explore. It was nice that we weren’t all herded into the same room, and this seemed to add to the special feeling, too. You know, bit of excitement trying somewhere new! The evening entertainment in the hotel was great and we felt there was no reason to venture out. The beach was only over the road and was handy for sunbathers who enjoy lying on the beach and soaking up the rays.
The only downside we found was that the immediate area of Port el Kantoui surrounding the hotel didn’t really have any shops, bars or restaurants though, and on the marina we were pulled into shops a few times, though generally a firm ‘no’ did the trick. Also, a lot of drink served in resort was wine and beer, we didn’t find a wide variety of spirits.
The weather was beautiful for the time of year. It was around 18 Celsius everyday. It was lovely t-shirt weather, maybe slightly too cold for bikinis on the beach, but was perfect for getting out and about and seeing the sights and picking up a fairly nice tan.
The excursion we did was a brilliant insight into Tunisian culture. It was called the Bedouin feast, and involved a meal of customary cuisine, belly dancing and live music to entertain you. Also another excursion on offer, though we didn’t go on this, is the Tunisian Desert Explorer which looks really interesting. It takes you to many places such as the set of the Star Wars movie and the many Roman ruins. If you like to get out and about, as we do, during the day then Tunisia was a good place to enjoy the sights.
All in all we really enjoyed our holiday in Tunisia. The First Choice really made the holiday special for us.
