Shallow shores

Cala Tarida’s 300-metre beach is south facing so gets the sun all day, which is ideal when it comes to choosing from the various all inclusive hotels Ibiza has to offer in this part. The bright white sands and sun-bleached rocks that form the landscape here also radiate light. The water remains waist-deep a long way out, making it ideal for beginner snorkellers or to try the sport out with children. If you take your waterproof camera with you into the sea you can get a glorious shot of the resort with its greenery-covered rolling hills behind.

The areas either side of the beach are rocky and there are a few stone platforms that rise out to just above water level. Some of the closest ones to the shore are perfect playgrounds for kids and the further ones can be your solitary bathing points. Beach bars, restaurants and hotels are plentiful on the shore so you can refuel and take a break from the midday sun.

Sea life

The clear, tranquil waters here are only rippled by bathers and those taking part in water activities. There is a dive centre, OrcaSub Ibiza, from which you can take diving expeditions and boat trips out to the small islands along the coast. Es Vedra, which is apparently the third most magnetic place in the world after the North Pole and the Bermuda Triangle, Vedranell and the Islotes de Poniente, are all just 10 minutes away.

You can also take part in windsurfing, water skiing and sailing from Cala Tarida or simply hire a pedalo and mosey around the bay. While much of the entertainment here comes from fun in the water and building sandcastles, back at your hotel complex there’ll also be plenty to do. When deciding on your Ibiza package holidays it is good to know that many of the hotels in Cala Tarida are All Inclusive, and lay on heaps of sports and entertainment.

Sunset dinners

The best restaurants in town are up on the hillside looking out over the magnificent sunsets. One of the bigger hotels, the TUI Sensatori Resort Ibiza, gets in on the action too by making the most of those views. Its rooftop bar is fantastic for retiring to with a drink after dinner.

You’ll find plenty of fresh fish and locally-produced wine in restaurants here. One of the best places to eat and spend the night is Cotton Beach Club, which clings to the cliff-face overlooking the beach. Everything is white here, including the chic furnishings and comfortable day beds, and the food includes burgers, pasta, grilled fish and meats as well as amazing desserts. Ambient music is played by resident DJs for the sunset session, when the champagne flows.

Fun nights

Nightlife in Cala Tarida is somewhat less chilled out than the daytime, involving karaoke and live music with plenty of Spanish food and drink thrown in. The aiSea Bar is a bohemian shack with low sofas and mood lighting where you can catch bands from 9pm. All the drinks are made from 100% natural ingredients for some fruit intake while sipping on cocktails.

If you like your nights more upbeat, booking cheap Ibiza holidays in Cala Tarida will mean that San Antonio Town is just down the road and Ibiza Town only a little further. From San Antonio the disco bus will take you to nightclubs across the island such as Amnesia and Privilege.

Get out and about

There is a supermarket and a few other shops in Cala Tarida but to get some real retail therapy, five buses a day run to the capital, Ibiza Town, and there are hourly services to San Antonio Town. You might also opt to travel by ferry to San Antonio. If you arrive after 5pm all of the shops will be open and the streets come alive with stalls. Ibiza Town is a bigger shopping town and has leading Spanish brands as well as familiar high street names. It is also a good choice for its dramatic walled old town and 14th century cathedral.

Cala Tarida has some funky beach bars and Spanish restaurants to spend your evenings in but if you want the raucous nightlife Ibiza has become known for then San Antonio and Ibiza Town are also where the big clubs are.
