Watch the yachts sail by
St Vlas sits in a picturesque setting at the foot of the slopes of the Balkan Mountains. With the full name Sveti Vlas, the original site dates way back to the 2nd century but the town is now a smart, upmarket resort. It’s popular with yacht owners and the sailing set due to the town’s Dinevi Marina which has capacity for 300 yachts and is the largest in Bulgaria.
A tranquil, relaxed atmosphere and plenty of space both in town and on the beaches make St Vlas a hugely popular Balkan holiday destination. This classy resort also has a lively side come night-time with sophisticated bars, exclusive clubs and high-end restaurants.
Take your pick from three sandy beaches
St Vlas has three pristine beaches which are all Blue Flag awarded. The biggest one is located directly in front of St Vlas town. This is a wide, sandy stretch is just under a kilometre long and is the most popular beach with locals and visitors. There’s plenty of space to find your own perfect spot and spread out your beach towel, books, bucket and spade. You can also choose to snuggle into one of the comfy beach sofas under a parasol and have a peaceful snooze in the shade.
East Beach, actually located to the south of the town, is smaller and quieter, so you can head here for some really tranquil beach time. While New Beach is an exclusive stretch located on either side of the yacht marina and carries the same air of sleek sophistication. You’ll find a hub of smart cocktails bars, upmarket beach bars and sea view restaurants dotted along this stretch, so you won’t have far to go for snacks, lunch or a few drinks during your beach days.
There are also plenty of watersports available in St Vlas. You can try jet-skiing, water-skiing and windsurfing, or take the slightly less energetic route with a trip at your own speed on a pedalo.
Browse the designer shops and pick up some souvenirs
You’ll find a host of designer shops and boutiques at Diveni Marina, with outlets for high-end fashion, jewellery and accessories, as well as luxury sailing gear. In the old town centre there’s also a pedestrian shopping district where you can browse and shop for local handicrafts, ceramics and souvenirs.
Check out the nightlife
The nightlife in St Vlas is focused around the marina, where you can watch the sunset and sip cocktails under the stars. There are excellent restaurants and exclusive nightclub venues here, and along the beachfront you’ll find several laid-back bars. There’s also an amphitheatre which hosts cultural events.
If you’re in the mood for a really lively night, head to nearby Sunny Beach which is just a few minutes away by taxi. Here you’ll find a bustling selection of restaurants, bars and clubs.
