A picture-perfect landscape
It would be hard to imagine a more idyllic spot than Podaca. Picture a small village of terracotta-topped houses, with a couple of local restaurants. It’s clustered around two shingle beaches and fringed with aromatic pine trees.
The ocean stretches out on either side, while behind the village looms the rugged silhouette of Mount Biokova. You’ll be reaching for your camera again and again, as you capture the wonderful views.
Sun, sea and sand
Podaca holidays are all about lazy beach days. The village boasts two beaches, one on either side of town. Both are renowned for their serene atmosphere and crystal-clear waters.
Plaža Podaca, north of town, is a secluded beach lined with palm trees. You’ll need to bring your own towel here, as there are no loungers available. If you want peace and quiet, this is the spot for you.
Ravanje Beach, south of town, is equally stunning but has more facilities. You’ll find a couple of bars and restaurants here, and a shower. There’s also a watersports centre, where you can go jetskiing and kayaking.
Hiking and biking
Podaca holidays cater to active groups too. There are some great hiking opportunities in the region, including trails that wind up Mount Biokava. The climb to the top is rewarded with stunning ocean views – you might even be lucky enough to see a golden eagle.
Several resorts in the area offer bike hire. With its quiet lanes, coastal roads and mountain trails, this a fantastic spot for keen cyclists.
Find Game of Thrones' film set
There are few tourist attractions in Podaca, but the pretty town of Makarska is just 40 minutes away by local bus or taxi. It boasts a few museums, a lively local market, and a cluster of bars and restaurants. Many of these can be found along the sea-front promenade. You can also catch the ferry to Brac Island from here.
Other potential day trips include a visit to Split and Dubrovnik, both a two-hour drive away. You can explore the palaces, museums and churches of Dubrovnik’s eye-catching old town, used as a Game of Thrones filming location. You can reach Podaca by flying to Split Airport, just under two hours away.
Podaca holidays promise to leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. You’ll experience idyllic surroundings and spend lazy days soaking up the sun on the beach, but there are still enough activities to keep you entertained for the duration of your visit.
