A guide to the best restaurants in Cavtat
Cavtat holidays are all about the views, and many of the restaurants here are situated on its eight-kilometre waterfront promenade, backed with pine forests, leaving you well-placed for a bit of yacht paparazzi. You can enjoy the wonderful views as you dine or listen to a spot of live music. Every region of Croatia has its own type of food, and popular to the Cavtat area is black risotto, made with octopus or squid. Most of the local venues offer good quality, fresh fish plucked straight out of the ocean.
Traditional feeling at Taverna Galija
Located next to an ancient monastery on the harbour, sit on the garden terrace where cats meander around you while you overlook the Adriatic. If you’re lucky, the owner might share his knowledge of the area. They serve Croatian and international dishes, including a great Dalmatian cured ham platter.
Enjoy dinner at the smart-casual Ciparis
This is a family-run restaurant serving great Mediterranean inspired food including pork in a fig sauce, fresh seafood and homemade cheesecake. It’s a small place, so remember to book in advance. It offers nicely laid tables set among lush vegetation with wonderful views to the sea.
A relaxed vibe at Restaurant Pojesdon
This is a simple restaurant perfect for breakfast, lunch or an evening meal. It’s situated on the corner of the main harbour, right on the seafront. You can choose from an international menu including omelette with salad, or steak and chips.
Down-to-earth at Ivan
Describing itself as a ‘fish, meat and grill’ restaurant, Ivan doesn’t disappoint with the food or the location overlooking the bay. For something simple but tasty, order the seafood platter, or try the Dalmation Mussels a la Buzara. This isn’t a fancy restaurant, so it’s a nice place to pop into when you’re feeling peckish.
Reaching high at Konoba Konavoski Komin
Located high in the mountains that make holidays to Cavtat so memorable, this restaurant serves fresh fish and grilled meat cooked in local style. The authentic Croatian brick building is the kind of higgledy-piggledy place you dream of discovering on your holidays. And the portions are plentiful, great for providing energy for a walk back down the mountain, or you could take a taxi up and back.
A lovely ambience at Taverna Domizana
When you fancy an Italian meal this is the place to head, either for lunch or dinner. The pizza is top notch, while all the other dishes including the meat and fish are simple yet succulent. The main restaurant is situated on the water’s edge, while there’s also a nice outdoor canopied space just across the road.
