The beach closest to Aghios Ioannis is Kontogialos Beach at Pelekas. It’s just a short bus ride away, so you’ll be easily connected to your own strip of coastline whenever you want to take a dip. What’s more, the beach has won an award for its gorgeous sands and shallow waters.
The clean and secluded nature of this beach means you won’t find lines and lines of loungers and parasols, but that’s all part of the charm. Bring your towel, a bit of lunch, and enjoy the beautiful rock formations that surround you. If you’re going at the weekend, you better hot step it early, as the locals love this beach just as much as you will.
A splash park right on your doorstep
Aghios Ioannis has a major attraction, Aqualand. This splash-parkis brimming with slides, water sports, sun-bathing opportunities and tasty food and drink vendors. You can add it to your itinerary without the need to travel a long way. Aqualand is basically your own back garden play area.
Racing your friends and family down the kamikazes, you might want to bet the next round of drinks on the winner – or you could bob around in the wave pool, or take the little ones to their own splash area, complete with themed slides and climbing frames. If you’re looking to relax while others have their adventures, the lounger areas are where you can kick back with a book and soak up the sun.
Corfu Town in easy reach
Corfu Town is the capital of the island and is top of the list of places to visit for many visitors to the Corfu. It’s got wildly winding market streets and steps up and down to tavernas and souvenir vendors. Along with the action-packed bartering in the narrow lanes, you’ll be able to experience the high life and luxury of the commercial district.
Corfu Town has great transport to and from Aghios Ioannis, and this makes it an ideal place to go for a meal if you want to try some of the island’s cuisine. After you’ve eaten, why not take a softly-lit walk around the harbour, or up to the fort which reigns over the entire city. Corfu Town is truly beautiful and still in touch with its historical roots.
