There are probably more fruit trees, orchards and olive groves than people in Loutses, as the population is estimated to be under 250. The village is extremely quiet, with just a few local businesses, such as a marble workshop. What you’ll mostly see dotted along the country roads are converted 19th-century stone-cottage holiday homes and several traditional restaurants. Many amenities and attractions are located in nearby resorts and villages.
Heavenly quiet beach days
The nearest beach is under a 15-minute drive from Loutses is Agios Spiridon. With fine sands, clear waters and a backdrop of lush forest, it’s a serene place to enjoy a day out by the sea. There are sunbeds dotted across the beach and you have the chance to get involved with a variety of watersports or hire a boat. The town has a good selection of restaurants and cafes.
Fantastic family fun
Acharavi is a resort town just under a 20-minute drive from Loutses and features a lovely sandy beach, shops and restaurants and plenty of interesting places to visit. The water park and sports centre, Hydropolis, is popular with families and offers big water slides, tennis courts and a small zoo. Also browse the quirky Folklore Museum that showcases folk objects, furniture and tools from over the centuries.
Head to the harbour
Around five miles east of Loutses, and under a 20-minute drive, is the traditional fishing village of Kassiopi. Enjoy a stroll around the pretty harbour and watch the boats coming and going as you have lunch at one of the tavernas. You can also stock up on groceries and essentials from the choice of shops and supermarkets in the town.
A little bit of everything you want
Corfu Town, the island’s capital, is an hour away by car and offers a lively, cosmopolitan experience. There’s an Italian style and influence in the architecture throughout the town, which is due to having had both Sicilian and Venetian rule in the past. One of the most beautiful buildings is the Liston arcade and was built during French occupation, with its ornate terraces being home to stylish cafés and restaurants. Also worth a visit is the old town area with its winding streets and historic buildings.
