Sand beneath your toes

The Aghia Marina beach is the highlight for tourists visiting the area on holidays to Greece. It runs over 2.5 kilometres and, because of the quiet nature of the resort, it’s never over crowded. You’ll always find the ideal secluded spot to lay your beach towel and stretch out, looking towards the clear sparkling waters.

The sea along this Blue Flag winning beach is so transparent you’ll be able to watch colourful fish swim around your feet as you wade in the shallows. There are tons of sunloungers and parasols around, and if you start feeling a little peckish this beach is lined with seafront taverns and restaurants.

Watersports are a high priority at the beach and you’ll be able to join in on all the activities including snorkelling, jet-ski riding and even surfing when the tide is right.

For those dare devils who want a bit of a thrill on cheap package holidays to Greece, Aghia Marina is home to some of the island’s most exciting watersports. Huge parachutes will soar above you and your instructor as you fly weightlessly over the Mediterranean Sea during your paragliding experience.

Aghia Marina is also home to a surfing school where experienced surfers will teach you the ropes and give you in-depth lessons both on land and in the waves. Even if you have never been on a board before, you’ll feel safe and secure under their professional supervision and have an epic experience that will last you a life time. When the sea is calm you can still go out on a board and join in with the paddle surfing, a much more calm and laid-back way to enjoy the waters.

    Train tours

The Little Fun Train takes visitors on an exciting and informative trip around the island. Hop aboard one of the three carriages in Aghia Marina and you can look out through the open windows as you ride through the area’s beautiful natural scenery.

This little train has over 10 routes available and can take you through guided tours of olive oil manufacturers, wine vineyards, canyons and bird sanctuaries. There are several stops along the way where to get out and explore at your own pace.

The train’s excursions are usually around two to just over three hours long including stops to pick up some shopping, and to learn about the area’s ancient history and folklore. You’ll leave the train knowing much more about Aghia Marina, and having seen some spectacular sights you might not have seen otherwise.

This is a great way to get around Crete with informative and friendly guides who are more than happy to introduce you to their homeland in a fun and exciting way. If you have children this activity is sure to keep them entertained all day long.

Aghia Marina is cushioned between Platanias and the former capital of Crete, Chania. Platanias is known as being Aghia Marina’s slightly more lively and vibrant neighbour. This town has a buzzing nightlife scene with numerous clubs and Greek taverns where you can dance the night away to current pop tracks as well as traditional Greek music.

Chania is a little further along the coast but makes for a wonderful day-trip out. This Venetian harbour city has fascinating archaeological sites and countless preserved monuments. Venturing through Crete’s second largest city is like taking a stroll back through time. Chania’s metropolis is also full of delicious authentic Greek restaurants as well as several international eateries serving up foods from all over the world including China, Italy, Britain and America.
