Spartia Holidays

The rustic village of Spartia is the perfect place to doze off and enjoy the slow life. Its small village square, quaint church and authentic tavernas give it a charming, tranquil air, as does the lush countryside and clean beach. Staying in Spartia makes it easy to get around the island and see Kefalonia’s most popular attractions: its capital, Argostoli; the Drogarati Cave; and Lake Melissani.

The perfect exploration base

Make the most of Spartia’s location and explore as much of Kefalonia as you can. Argostoli is a 20-minute drive away, where you can shop, eat and see the sights. Explore the folklore museum and revisit Greece’s past, and take a stroll to the top of the bell-tower on Kabanas Square for panoramic views. Sami – a 40-minute drive – is home to two of the island’s most famous geographical wonders: the Drogarati Cave and Lake Melissani. Prepare to be amazed by these feats of nature, and spellbound by the shimmering, glittering colours.

Don't shy away from local cuisine

Sample local delicacies and fresh produce at Spartia’s handful of traditional tavernas, or in the seafront restaurants on the coast. For more variety, drive the 10 minutes to Svoronata. From ocean-fresh swordfish to rich moussaka and aromatic lamb kleftiko, you’re guaranteed a filling, delicious meal. Don’t forget to try the signature Kefalonian pie, too – you’ll savour every mouthful of the rice-and-meat dish.

Enjoy a leisurely stroll

Spartia’s beach is a 10-minute drive – but with the gentle, meandering country paths, most visitors prefer to walk there. You’ll find a duo of beaches bordering a small fishing jetty, with a combination of both sand and shingle. If you like watersports, take advantage of the great snorkelling, windsurfing and sailing. Don’t forget to explore the neighbouring beaches either. Avithos is 15 minutes away, and its sandy Blue Flag beach has shallow water, sun loungers and umbrellas. Lourdas Beach is a 20-minute drive and is another great spot for watersports, as well as boasting prime views across to Zante.

Take in some staggering views

Walk in the shoes of the famous poet, Lord Byron, and drive for a few minutes to the village of Peratata. Visit the Venetian Castle of Saint George, and take in the wondrous views – as you’ll be 320 metres high.
