Enjoy the slow pace and superb beaches in Balaia

The traditional Spanish village feel of Balaia exudes laid-back with its pretty whitewashed houses and coastline of quiet, sandy beaches and rugged cliffs. The superb local golf course makes it popular with golfers, and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for couples and families with children.

There are two pristine Blue Flag awarded beaches here offering sparkling clean sea and all the facilities you’ll need to make your holiday beach days relaxed and lots of fun.

Santa Eulalia beach is in a popular cove surrounded by palm trees and cliffs. With shallow water at the shoreline it’s perfect for children to paddle and play in and there’s plenty of space to spread out your beach towel and sunbathe. There are several restaurants and bars dotted around the beachside, so you can grab some snacks, lunch or a cool drink throughout the day.

Praia da Maria Luisa is a quieter beach with a charming little beachside bar where you can linger over a drink while you take in the sea views. Along this stretch you’ll also find several small rock pools to explore.

Spend lazy days of relaxed lunches, shopping and sea views

There are cafes, restaurants and bars located in and around Balaia Plaza in the centre of the village. You’ll find a wide selection of food choices here, from tasty traditional Portuguese dishes and familiar European favourites to delicious Indian and Chinese cuisine.

There are several places in the village to buy local handicrafts, souvenirs and essentials. If you’re looking for some serious shopping and browsing for clothes, electrical and similar items the main shopping district in the area is in nearby Albufeira. You can easily take a shopping trip to Albufeira Shopping Centre, which is just a 10-minute taxi ride away.

The restaurants and bars around the beach areas and in the village centre offer plenty of venues for relaxed evenings and long, lazy dinners with friends and family. If you’re looking for some busier, louder nightlife you can head to the bustling activity of bars and clubs along ‘The Strip’ in Albufeira. Just like the shopping centre, this nightlife hub is only 10 minutes away from Balaia by taxi.

Explore the rural countryside and the Algarve coastline

The greenery and natural landscape around Balaia make it a great destination for treks and exploration. You can see superb views out over the Atlantic from the clifftops, or venture inland to see a little more of the rural Algarve countryside.

You can explore the area on foot, or hire a bike or quad-bike and pass orchards of fragrant fruit trees, tiny hamlets and farms. You could also do some gentle hacking along peaceful, winding trails on horse-back. If you prefer adventures at sea, boat trips are also available.

Make the most of the superb golf course

For golfing fans, cheap holidays to the Algarve region offer some of the most spectacular and interesting courses in Europe. Balaia is a popular destination for golfers – you won’t have far to go between beach days to get in some practice or a good game.

Balaia Golf Course is classed as an ‘Executive Course’ where you can choose routes of varying degrees of difficulty. So whether you’re a keen beginner, or a seasoned player you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy some interesting games. The nine holes on the course are set within a sweeping landscaped area with superb sea views over the cliffs.

If you’d like to improve your game, or learn a few new tricks, you can visit the on-site Golf Academy which runs classes for both amateurs and professionals. You can also get in some practice at the Driving Range and the Putting and Chipping Greens.
