Things to do in Porto

Porto city breaks have two sides to them. Trying Porto’s Port Wine is a must for every tourist. This deliciously strong, fortified wine has made Portugal and Porto specifically famous across the globe. It’s made in the Douro valley and is best enjoyed during or after dessert because of its sweet taste.

Porto is the picture perfect postcard destination with its sky high lookouts and rooftop terraces giving you the picturesque view over cobbled streets, colourful buildings and extravagant stately buildings. Walk the streets and climb the steps to capture the true beauty of Porto firsthand. Plus, if you venture to the Douro river you can take a relaxing river cruise to see the buildings and bridges from an alternative view.

An UNESCO World Heritage site

Another reason to book your Porto holiday is that Porto was actually deemed an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. There are many reasons why Porto made it onto the list and one of these main reasons is the city’s emblematic iron bridge, Ponte de D. Luis. Start your Porto city break off with a stop here, climbing up the hills opposite to give yourself the full wonderful picture of Porto.

What is the weather like in Porto?

A Porto holiday can be enjoyed all year round, although spring and summer are the most popular months for tourists. In the peak of summer, in July and August, the temperatures can hit the late twenties meaning you can get that glowing sun tan, while it is not too hot to explore and be active.

In the winter, Porto does cool down to around 14 degrees and rainfall is expected every few days. But don’t let this stop you, there’s still so much to explore and see and it is all just as stunning as in the summer.
