Food and Drink in Costa Dorada
A must-visit location for food lovers, Salou has more than 250 different eateries, while the relatively small town of Cambrils has in excess of 200 restaurants and is seen as something of a gastronomic centre. Wherever you are in Costa Dorada, food is always seen as a top priority, so you’re sure to find tasty offerings everywhere you turn.
Exploring Costa Dorada's cuisine
The best and brightest flavours of Spain are well represented here, with paella and tapas being just the start. In addition, Costa Dorada’s distinctive cultural identity has allowed a range of more localised specialities to form. Living off the land has built the backdrop for countless menus and mealtimes, so you can find the finest local cuisine waiting on your plate. Of course, the coastal communities of Costa Dorada have plenty to offer too, with seafood of every variety ready and available to enjoy.
For the authentic Costa Dorada taste sensation, you’ll need to savour some of the region’s exclusive delights. Wild boar is considered a particular delicacy in these parts, prepared in a variety of smoked, roasted and fried methods that evoke the rich flavours locked within the meat. Menjar blanc, a blancmange with a creamy white colour and a sweet and light texture, is a dessert originating in the town of Reus, and as typical of Costa Dorada and Tarragona as they come.
Xantar, Salou
Foods of the Mediterranean are served at Xantar in a simple way with a modern twist. There are pastas, pizzas and roasts as well as paella, suckling pig and octopus for more bold tastes. With a fixed-price three-course menu, plus wine and coffees, for €25 each, it’s hard to complain.
Can Bosch, Cambrils
A friendly ambience accompanies the classic haute cuisine at this Michelin star restaurant. Expect to pay slightly more for the quality cuisine here, but it’s well worth it. They have a range of menus including lobster, degustation, sea and tapas as well as a la carte. It’s always a good sign if the chef comes out to ask customers how their meal was.
Bar Restaurant Oh La La, La Pineda
For some proper grub, try the all-you-can-eat ribs night at Oh La Las. With burgers, steaks, kebabs and prawns to choose from as well, this European restaurant has meat covered. The owners are Dutch so you can even try a frikandel hot dog and other Dutch delicacies while you’re here, making for a pretty intriguing tour for your tastebuds, all while snug in the heart of Costa Dorada.
Queenz Dinner Show, Sitges
For dinner with entertainment thrown in, this drag cabaret show is a winner. The menu and show is only €39.50s. A diverse audience will enjoy the performance and either a pica pica light bites menu or one where you can choose your meat or vegetarian options.
La Morera, Salou
This small restaurant punches above its weight in terms of fine dining, offering a French twist on Spanish recipes.
The romantic setting and beautifully presented meals may leave you expecting a hefty bill, but it offers remarkable value that’s enticed more than a few regulars to come back time and again. A three-course meal with wine for two is around €60. Children are also welcome here and will no doubt love the home cooked chips.
