Step into the future

Valencia is well known for its City of Arts and Sciences, so expect to be wowed during your visit. Futuristic structures will leave you mesmerised from the moment you arrive, from an interactive museum to the one-of-a-kind opera house.

Head over to Hemisferic for a cinema trip like no other with its digital 3D experience. Boasting an enormous 900 metre concave screen, you’ll feel fully immersed from the second you step inside. Check out the film listing before you go – there’s usually a whole host of educational documentaries, with some being especially for children too.

Can you think of any other museum where the signage is ‘not touching is prohibited’? Well, at the Science Museum here, you’ll find that’s precisely their unique approach. Make sure to get involved with interactive exhibitions revolving around all things science and technology. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into the future!

Music lovers simply have to visit the futuristic looking Pala de les Arts Opera House. Catch a concert, be awed by opera or blown away by the ballet – there’s something on offer for everyone.

And for a date night like no other, head to the Umbracle. This enormous open-access garden covers more than 17,000 m2 and is the perfect place to head for a serene stroll past Mediterranean foliage and contemporary sculptures. You can even opt for a spot on the terrace at night to enjoy a drink under the moonlight. Magical!

Or take a walk into the past

Once you’re sufficiently wowed by Valencia’s futuristic offering, take some time to enjoy everything it has to offer from the past. Head on down to Barrio Del Carmen – one of the largest medieval quarters in Europe. Boasting stunning architecture at every turn, this 1,000 year old city is the historical epicentre of Valencia and shouldn’t be missed.

Standing tall and proud as the gateways to the city, the Serranos and Quart Towers reveal a labyrinth of charming cobbled streets. Stop off for a frothy coffee at one of the many outdoor terraces on offer, or if you’re feeling peckish then it would be rude not to opt for some typical tapas or a piping hot paella. Wash it all down with an Agua de Valencia – the local cocktail, of course!

A stroll around this historic quarter will delight and surprise you, from the splendid street art on display to the famous Mossen Sorell market – a boutique space serving up fresh, local products and produce. Sample the delicious gourmet specialities on offer and pick up a few unique souvenirs to remember your trip by.

Under the sea adventures

No trip to Valencia is complete without a trip to Oceanografic, Europe’s biggest aquarium. Be blown away as you get up close and personal with the likes of dolphins, belugas, sea lions, seals, walruses, penguins and even sharks.

With an unbelievable seven different marine environments and around 45,000 specimens of over 500 different species, this is an experience that’ll give you a whole new appreciation for the underwater world.

Not forgetting beautiful beaches

It’s not all big and beautiful buildings however – there’s an abundance of beaches on standby too! From busy city beaches packed with water sports and festivals, to quieter sweeps of sand that mostly locals visit, there’s a beachy spot for everyone to enjoy.

Flip-flop your way down to Playa de Las Arenas where you’ll find a slice of shoreline glistening towards the Med – serving up beachside restaurants galore, sun loungers and even volley ball courts. Get amongst all the action or simply sit back and people watch – the choice is all yours.

As you can see – there’s an abundance of things to see and do in Valencia. A Spanish getaway with a twist, you’ve got everything you need for a fabulous getaway right at your fingertips – rich culture, fantastic food and golden beaches. This city will certainly leave you wanting more.
