Holidays in Antalya

Shopping in Antalya City

If you’re in search of some retail therapy while on holiday, you’ll be able to shop ’til you drop in mysterious and magical bazaars, as well as ultra-modern shopping malls. Indeed, no Antalya holiday is complete without hitting one of the Turkish bazaars, whether you’re looking for goods or not, it’s a whole experience in itself to work your way through the maze of stalls and goods.

The Iki Kapilar Hani is the place to go for some genuine and beautiful Turkish souvenirs. From waterpipes and exquisite copper goods – you can even visit the copper-workers hammering out trays and ornate pots in their workshops – to contemporary clothing and fashions, you’ll find it all in this huge market just north of Kaleici.

Close to the centre of town is a very modern shopping centre, where you’ll find some wonderful quality clothing shops offering fashions at very reasonable prices. Even for a spot of window shopping, it can be a great escape if you’re looking for an afternoon of shade.

Kaleici - the old city

Dating back to Roman times, this part of Antalya is famous for its beautiful and narrow winding streets, its fantastic restaurants and stunning architecture. Even if you’re not that keen on history, you can always drop into a nearby cafe or restaurant and enjoy a delicious seafood meal, a mezze or simply relish the taste of a traditional Turkish coffee while taking in the views.

The awesome Hadrian’s Gate, built by the Romans, can still be found in this part of town and if you go down the hill towards the sea, you’ll be able to see the city’s impressive ancient Roman harbour.

Though not in Kaleici itself, but a 20-minute walk away, the Antalya museum has been garnering rave reviews from visitors for years. With displays of ancient Greek and Roman sculpture, as well as many other exhibits detailing the history of this fascinating resort, it makes for a great trip out to learn something new.

While the old town and Antalya’s museums can inform you about the region’s history, you can explore the past for yourself at historic sites like the ancient cities of Termessos and Perge. You’ll find several tours and excursions to sites like these, or you can explore them at your own pace to save some pennies.

In and around Antalya City

You’ll find a tonne of things to do across Antalya, from those impressive historic sites and markets, to all day boat trips and adrenaline-fuelled watersports. A trip to the nearby Green Canyon will reveal some stunning rocks and inland freshwater lakes – as well as revive your spirits.

Adrenaline junkies will be able to indulge with speed boats, banana rides an other wave hopping inflatables, and even white-water rafting. Novaraft is the place to head for if your passion is climbing rocks, or canoeing down rivers.

The Duden waterfalls – to the south of the city and close by the sea – are ideal if you want to enjoy a family day out, or you simply want to enjoy some spectacular scenery. Boat trips are also on offer here so you can really appreciate the majesty of the falls up close. Standing 40 metes tall, they really are breathtaking. There is no fee if you’re exploring the falls for yourselves (without a guide), so even if you are wanting a cheap Antalya holiday, you don’t have to miss out on gems like this.

A cool vibe

At the end of a long day, Antalya offers plenty of places for you to party the night away. Most of the nightclubs are based in Kaleici, where there’s a lively but cool and sophisticated vibe, but if you’re looking for a tasty meal, with a a cocktail or two, the marina will be your best bet – and that really is sophisticated.

More often than not, there will be live music shows and DJs playing in Kaleici, and two popular picks are Club 29, which has an outdoor party area, and Club Arma, which is famous for its vibrant scene – and you can overlook the yachts in the marina while you dance until dawn.

If you fancy exploring the wider Antalya Region for a night or two, Kemer offers a booming nightlife scene. In particular, Club Inferno is dance party central with a neon lit dancefloor and live music – you’ll be dancing until sunrise.

Side also offers another popular spot with plenty of music and dancing. Start the evening off with cocktails at Korner Bar, before moving on to Lighthouse Club, where you’ll be met with disco balls and sparklers, and best of all, it’s open air.

When you’re looking for something a little different, the Anatalya City also has concert halls and theatres that offer an interesting alternative for an evening’s entertainment.
