Majorca is the largest and most popular of the Balearic Islands and is suitably packed with great last minute ideas. This island boasts a beautiful green landscape with rocky crags and rolling hills, ripe for exploration. The Formentor Lighthouse, on the island’s northern tip, gives you epic views of the landscape. You can get here by hiring a bike at one of the many cycle shops,which don’t require pre-booking, or by hiking through the gorgeous terrain. Majorca is also fantastic if you have kids, as it has several waterparks with wild slides and wave pools.
For a little rest and relaxation Menorca has you covered. This island runs at a slower pace than its two counterparts, but still has plenty of things to keep you occupied. Menorca’s beaches are second to none, with unspoilt areas, white sand, and over 200 kilometres of coastline – that’s more beaches than Ibiza and Majorca put together. If you’re visiting in June you, won’t want to miss the ‘Festas de Sant Joan’. This three-day celebration hosts an array of parades, jousting competitions and fireworks displays.
The best time of year to book your last minute holiday
Due to the Balearic Island’s fantastic Mediterranean weather, there really isn’t a bad time to fly. These islands have an average of 300 days of sunshine a year so you can get a tan, no matter when you decide to visit. The islands do have a low season, which happens between November and February and is also known as rainy season. While it will most likely still be warm, lots of restaurants and cafes will be closed due to lack of tourists.
Last minute holidays constitute booking just eight week in advance, which is when you’ll unearth all the best deals.
