We all know about the main things to do and see in sunny Spain and its beautiful islands – the Sagrada Familia, the Catedral de Mallorca, Mount Teide… we could go on! But you may not have heard of this handful of unique attractions that are a little off the beaten track. Take a look and discover amazing places that show there’s more to Spain than first meets the eye…
See The Pink and Green Lakes of Torrevieja
If you’re a fan of things that are a little out of the ordinary and you love spending time in quiet seaside towns, this one’s for you. Visit Las Salinas de Torrevieja and soak in the sights of candyfloss-pink and bold, green salt lakes dancing in the sunlight. The main attraction is the pink lake, alluring visitors from all over the world with its fascinating flamingo hues.
Anyone would think the distinctive colour of the lake was an entirely manufactured phenomenon, but it is in fact the work of salt bacterium and algae in the waters, and is 100% natural. Swimming is unfortunately prohibited, but it’s worth visiting this place to simply spend an hour or two wandering around in the sun, taking in the wonders of the lakes.

Reach New Heights At Caminito Del Rey
Breathtaking views, leg-tingling mountain walkways and a real sense of adventure are just some of the things you can expect on a visit to Caminito Del Rey. This cliffside walk of around 7km will take you over the colossal El Chorro gorge on suspended bridges that pass by waterfalls and beautiful valley views.
The original pathway dates back to 1901, when it was built to provide access to nearby hydroelectric plants. The name came 20 years later, after King Alfonso XIII walked the pathway to inaugurate a new dam. El Caminito Del Rey translates to ‘The King’s Little Pathway’.
When it was first built, many considered the path to be one of the most dangerous walkways in the world, but you’ll be glad to know it’s more recently been fully restored and there are rigorous safety measures in place. Be warned though – you’ll be walking around 100m above rolling waters, so this trip may not be the one for you if you’re scared of heights!

Get Lost In The Labyrinth Park of Horta
Many weird and wonderful tourist attractions spring to mind when you think of beautiful Barcelona. One that’s a little lesser known but so much fun is the Labyrinth Park of Horta. This hidden gem nestled high above the city is a great place to go for people of all ages. The labyrinth itself is bright green and perfectly shaped, like something out of a fairytale book, but there’s more to this attraction than just getting lost in a maze.
The garden that surrounds the labyrinth is an attraction in itself. It’s one of the oldest gardens in Barcelona and is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a moment of peace and tranquility. Think twinkling ponds, old-fashioned stone stairways and old Greek statues, not to mention the plethora of flourishing blooms you’ll find scattered among the walkways. Simply stunning!

Dive Deep At Museo Atlantico
Those who like to scuba dive will be particularly suited for this fascinating attraction in Lanzarote. The Museo Atlantico is a museum with a difference – it’s all underwater. It’s the first of its kind in Europe and includes over 300 eerie statues, placed carefully around 14 metres below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean.
Whilst it’s fun to dive down and see these sculptures on the seabed, the exhibit was designed with a deeper meaning at heart. The things you see at the Museo Atlantico serve as a stark reminder of the impact humans have had on the natural world. In a twist of irony, the longer the man-made statues stand under the water, the more they become affected by the nature surrounding them.
If you’re interested in this attraction but you’ve not yet tried scuba diving, don’t worry – there are options available for beginners, for those with a diving certificate but who have not been diving for some time and also for confident divers with a freediving certificate.

Be Wowed By The City Of Ronda
Ronda is a majestic city perched atop two rugged cliff faces, adjoined by a dramatic, 330ft bridge not unlike something you’d see in a Lord Of The Rings movie. The city is full of sleek, white stone buildings that come so close to the edge of the sheer drop into the canyon that they look almost like they’re part of the cliff. It really is a sight to behold!
The river flowing through the canyon beneath Ronda separates the two sides of the city: the old town and the new town. When you’re exploring this extraordinary city, you can expect everything from incredible hiking opportunities to dining at delicious, traditional tapas bars. Wherever you go in Ronda, you’ll be treated to spectacular views over the Andalusian countryside and have plenty to explore.
