7 Memories to Make on Holiday This Summer

Planning and even heading on holiday can sometimes feel a bit stressful, no matter how organised you try to be! But don’t let that stop you from looking forward to the real moments that matter on holiday – making new memories!

Here’s 7 memories you can look forward to making on your next escape…

  1. Do a holiday Tiktok

Whether you’re addicted to the latest Tiktok trends or not, making a fun family video is a great way to capture memories that will last a lifetime! Lately we love the ‘jumping into your destination’ trending video, where you start by jumping over your phone’s camera in the airport, and doing the same thing again once you’re at your destination. Edited together, the two sets of videos look like you’ve all leaped on holiday together. So much fun!

2. Write your name in the sand

This one’s an oldie but a goldie – have you even been on holiday together if you haven’t written your names in the sand? Go a step further and pop the date in the sand too, then prop your phone against something and set a timer away to capture a timestamped family photo that you can look back on when you’re back home and no longer on a blissful beach.

3. Make your way through the entire cocktail list

If you’re staying at an All Inclusive resort, then this one is a no-brainer. How can you possibly be expected to know your favourite drink of the holiday without sampling them all!?! If you make it to the end then how about being brave and asking the bartender to whip you up a surprise cocktail that isn’t on the menu – you might even come up with a new tempting creation of your own!

4. Try new local foods

Let’s face it, one of the best things about going away on holiday is tucking into delicious food! Yes, you can stick to your favourites at the buffet, but why not make a special effort to take in the flavours of the destination you’re in. We’re talking authentic Spanish paella, gorgeous Greek gyros or Portuguese steak. If you’re unsure what to go for, ask the waiter for some suggestions when it comes to local dishes. You might just come back with a new favourite dish!

5. Test out the language

This one is for those feeling brave – how about flexing your Duolingo skills for real when on holiday? Simply google a few well-known common phrases and put them to the test when you’re out and about, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised how well your efforts will be received by the locals! Apps like Duolingo are an amazing resource for picking up any language, so download before you’re set to holiday and get practising. Muy bien!

6. Head on a new excursion

Sometimes it’s all too easy to get stuck into habit, even when on holiday. If you’re visiting a country you’ve been to before (or even many times – we all love finding a favourite hotel!) then try to make sure you still do something new.

New trips and experiences are being added in destinations all the time, so while it’s nice to have days just lounging around the pool and napping on our sunlounger, a day getting out and about and doing something new will bring you just as much joy too.

7. Unleash your inner bookworm

We’ve mentioned beaches, we’ve mentioned food – and sometimes there’s nothing better than just being on holiday with a good old book. We’re all for doing new things and making new memories, but sometimes those new memories simply need to be you, relaxing, carefree and content. And what better way is there to do that than getting stuck into a good book?!

Dig out an old favourite or get scouring the supermarket shelves for a couple reads to help you relax. Sit back with the Sunday Times Best Seller and soak up your surroundings as you absorb yourself into book bliss.
