An Essential Guide To Lanzarote’s Resorts

We love Lanzarote! There’s so much to do and see, along with endless dreamy spots just perfect for relaxing. Want to visit this idyllic island but not quite sure which area to stay in? We’ve got you covered with a complete overview of our six favourite resorts in lovely Lanzarote…

Playa De Los Pocillos

This peaceful and picturesque resort tucked away on the east coast of the island is the ideal spot for those wanting to chill out and enjoy all the simple pleasures of a beach holiday. It has heavenly hotels, beautiful golden beaches and a pretty promenade perfect to wander in the evening. If you’re hoping for total relaxation in gorgeous surroundings, Playa De Los Pocillos won’t disappoint.

The Beach

The main beach at Playa De Los Pocillos is a little smaller than its neighbouring resorts, with around one kilometre of soft sand to lounge on. It may be a little less spacious than others, but the shallow waters and sheltered location make it one of our favourite spots on the island for families with youngsters and those wanting a tranquil, low-key beach day where their troubles can melt away.

Things To Do

When you’re not exploring the town or enjoying a paddle in the sea, the convenient location of Playa De Los Pocillos means you’ve got plenty of options for day trips. Some of our favourite things to do include visiting the fabulously themed Rancho Texas Park or heading out to the breath-taking Timanfaya National Park where you can marvel at the island’s vast volcanic landscapes.

Puerto Calero

Want to live a life of luxury on your trip to Lanzarote? Head to the radiant resort of Puerto Calero. The hotels are stylish and sophisticated and there’s plenty to keep you busy, from fine dining to shopping in designer boutiques. By day you could head out to sea, and by night you could hop between swanky wine bars overlooking the marina. If you enjoy the finer things in life, you’ll just love Puerto Calero.

The Marina

Instead of a beach, you’ll find a mesmerising marina at Puerto Calero. Its nickname is the ‘Millionaire’s Harbour’, and it’s not hard to see why. Everything is lavish and spotless, from restaurants serving a range of cuisines to upmarket souvenir shops. The sea views from the marina are dazzling – it’s the perfect place to enjoy a large glass of red and a big plate of paella on a twinkling terrace as the sun sets!

Things To Do

Our favourite things to do at this resort mainly revolve around the sea. The marina makes Puerto Calero one of the most exciting spots on the island for getting out on the water. You could take in the beauty of the coastline on a catamaran trip, get down among the sea life in a spectacular submarine dive or even give scuba diving a try at one of the marina’s various diving schools. The sea is your oyster!

Puerto Del Carmen

Probably the most well-known resort on the island is Puerto Del Carmen. With a lively atmosphere, a stunning beach and all the amenities you could want, there’s no wonder it’s so popular! There’s something for everyone at this resort – it’s got plenty of family attractions, as well as wild nightlife and breath-taking mountain views. You can count on Puerto Del Carmen to give you a fun-filled holiday to remember.

The Beach

The main beach you’ll find at Puerto Del Carmen is Playa Grande. The clue is in the name – it’s a big one! There’s plenty of space for you to spend hours topping up your tan, cooling down with an ice cream or taking a dip in the bold, blue waters. To top it all off, the beach has been awarded Blue Flag status, so you can enjoy your visits with the peace of mind that it’s known to be a safe environment for everyone.

Things To Do

Similarly to Playa De Los Pocillos, you’re in a great position to visit the Rancho Texas Park or the Timanfaya National Park. If your holiday to Lanzarote is in February or March though, we’d recommend you experience the famous Carnaval, which sees locals celebrate with colourful displays and dancing in the street. It’s a great way to engross yourself in the culture of the island, and offers endless fun for everyone!

Costa Teguise

The terrific town of Costa Teguise was built in the 70s with tourism at its heart, and is the third most popular spot on the island for holiday-makers. Situated on the south-eastern coast, it has incredible beaches with clear blue lagoons and an array of mouth-watering restaurants for that all-important holiday indulgence. What more could you need for a brilliant beach getaway?

The Beach

Fancy a beach day complete with calm waters, sprawling sands and leafy palm trees? There are five beautiful bays to choose from in Costa Teguise. You can expect plenty of handy amenities, volcanic rock pools, bright golden sands and a promenade that stretches across all five beaches, making it extremely easy to have a change of scenery on your beach day. Grab your beach ball and prepare to make the ultimate holiday memories!

Things To Do

Costa Teguise is known for its adrenaline-fuelled watersports, from windsurfing to water skiing and everything in between. Not only this, but there’s a fun and lively Aquapark, the historic capital of Teguise is just a ten-minute drive away and you have easy access to attractions such as The Cuevas de Los Verdes and the Jardin de Cactus. If you like to pack plenty of activities into your holiday, Costa Teguise is in the ideal location.

Our Favourite Hotels

Families just love the TUI SUNEO El Trebol. Take a look and plan your next family holiday!

Going on an adult-only holiday? The Hotel Club Siroco is one of our very favourites.

Matagorda

Matagorda, a neighbouring town to Playa De Los Pocillos, is charming and quiet. It has calming hotels, scenic views and endless serene sunbathing spots. Matagorda has long been known for its vast beaches and eclectic range of restaurants – two of the most important parts of any holiday in our opinion! Whatever your appetite, you’ll find something simply delicious to tuck into here.

The Beach

The beach at Matagorda is really spacious considering it’s quite a small seaside town. You’ll find calm, gentle waves lapping the sandy shores and a totally relaxed atmosphere. Not only is it peaceful, but the views at this beach are second-to-none. Grab yourself a comfy sun lounger and doze off, listen to your favourite artist or get lost in a good book – there’s no better place to have nothing to do but chill!

Things To Do

You’ll never be stuck for something fun to do when you visit Matagorda. It may be a quiet destination, but it’s got great links to plenty of attractions on the island. The capital, Arrecife, is just up the road, and you can walk to some nearby resorts on the beachside promenade. It’s perfect for slow, lazy days, but by evening you can enjoy some Salsa dancing in a Latino bar or get funky with some live jazz music!

Playa Blanca

The name Playa Blanca literally translates to mean ‘White Beach’, so those who love the combination of sparkling sea and powdery sand can expect great things on a visit to this stunning resort. After Puerto Del Carmen, this is our second most popular sun spot in Lanzarote. With so much to do and such gorgeous surroundings, it’s not hard to see why so many holiday-makers love it!

The Beach

The distinctive white sand at the several gorgeous beaches dotted along the coastline is what Playa Blanca is famous for. There are great spots for family beach days, quieter spots for couples wanting a romantic lounge and plenty of in-water activities to take part in for those who want to inject a little excitement into their holiday. With plenty of shops and restaurants just a stone’s throw away, these beaches have it all.

Things To Do

There’s so much to do at Playa Blanca, from discovering some real beauty spots such as El Golfo or the Papagayo Coves to browsing the upmarket shops at Marina Rubicon. There are many stylish bars and restaurants to visit on your stay, and you can even take a scenic 15-minute boat ride from Playa Blanca over to the neighbouring Canary island of Fuerteventura! One thing’s for sure – you’ll never be bored here.
