Of course, we know that if you’re staying in Ibiza’s San Antonio resort, chances are you’ll be safely tucked up in bed with a mug of cocoa and the Sunday Times crossword by ten o’clock…but just in case you plan on hitting the tiles hard while you’re on the white island, here’s our selection of some choice eateries in which to suitably soak up the night’s excesses the morning after.
Fatsos Café
If you’re feeling a shade delicate you can expect to find yourself in good company at this Ronseal-approved place near the Sunset Strip which some say offers not only the island’s best brekkie but gives plenty of ‘caffs’ back home in Blighty a run for their money. You should get change from a twenty euro note for breakfast for two with drinks here, while the breezy, chatty staff do all they can to make you feel at home.
Oasis Café
Just a minute from Punta Xinxo beach, the Oasis lives up to its name, serving simple, honest home cooked English grub, a quality coffee or big, steaming mugs of tea, with prompt service to boot. Tackle the Mega Breakfast if you dare, or the breakfast bagel if yours is a smaller appetite in the morning. Traditional favourites like bangers and mash for the later risers come highly recommended, too.
The Ship Inn
Something of an institution in the West End, the Ship opens at 11am and keeps the flag flying until 6am. More than just a typical British pub, the Ship functions as something of hub for newbie incomers and mostly British summer season workers, with its job bulletin boards, insider info and friendly attitude. Satisfy your stomach with a non-nonsense Full English or a hearty Sunday lunch in the Ship’s relaxed company.
Rita’s Cantina
If you’re hankering for something a little healthier, try this cosy wee café, which caused a minor outcry among diehards when it was forced to close last year for building repairs. Now in new premises near the Ferry Port, Rita’s offers free Wi-Fi and a more relaxed environment attracting a mixed crowd of locals and revellers. It’s renowned for its shakes, smoothies, salads, club sarnies and cheese toasties, with breakfast served until 6pm. One of the few places that also retains a bit of a buzz off-season.
Ibiza Rocks Bar
Once upon a time Ibiza Rocks was on the site of the legendary Bar M, for many the ultimate pre-clubbing bar on the island. Nowadays, it’s part of the swish Ibiza Rocks empire known for hosting one of the best music festivals in Europe, with huge windows that open out almost directly on to a sandy beach. Open daily from 10am, it serves up mostly American diner style food, with firm favourites including chicken pittas, burgers and racks of ribs. The tempting stacks of maple-infused American pancakes should get your day started with a sugar high.
David’s Pizzeria
This thronging Italian place, with a few French touches here and there, has an extensive menu and does a roaring trade day and night, thanks mostly to its generously proportioned pizzas and calzones with super fresh tomatoes and toppings. A large and lively terrace area accommodates bigger groups and you may even feel tempted to return for an evening meal and try some of their more refined dishes, such as Duck Magret with Apple and Honey Sauce or a crunchy goat’s cheese salad. Very reasonable prices by Ibiza standards and all just five minutes from the Sunset Strip.
