The mercury is about to boil in the thermometers on the island of Cyprus. With a beautiful climate and over 340 days of sunshine per year the temperature rarely dips below 20 °C. And the summer months can often reach in excess of 35°C!
Split in to two main tourist areas, the main holiday hotspots include Paphos, Limassol, Nissi Beach, Protaras and Ayia Napa and with loads of activities you can guarantee that there is an activity for everyone in your holiday group.
With some super dreamy deals to be had on Cyprus at the minute, we thought we’d give you a quick run through of some of the best things to do whilst on the sunny isle…
Paphos Zoo
Originally a sanctuary for bird life, the park is now home to hundreds of animals including flamingos, Parrots, owls, cockatoos, llamas, kangaroos, giant tortoise and many more. This is a great day out for the family if you’re in the Paphos area with ticket prices starting from £13 per adult and £7 per child. It’s not going to break the bank.
WaterWorld Waterpark
Another great family attraction is the WaterWorld Waterpark in Ayia Napa. This is Europe’s largest themed waterpark and is the perfect fix for those adrenaline junkies or ideal chill out area for parents as they can relax in the ancient Egypt section.
Fig Tree Bay
According to Trip Advisor Fig Tree Bay is the number one thing to do in Protaras. This stunning beach with breathtaking ocean views to match has it all. Surrounded by great restaurants and bars you can even stop for a drink or bite to eat when you want to escape the blazing sun. And the best part about it is it costs nothing to visit.
Black Pearl Cruise
Ahoy! Mega Day Black Pearl Cruise awaits. It’s your time to shine in Cyprus like Jack Sparrow did in the Caribbean. You’ll sail to sea caves for a photo opportunity, swim at Konnos, stop for lunch, and finally sail to Protaras for one last swim before heading back to Aiya Napa harbour.
Golf in the Sensatori
Cyprus is known as a golfer’s paradise, with plenty of golfing opportunities across the island. How does an 18-hole golf course at the Sensatori Aphrodite Hills sound? The complex has over 6000 metres of velvety golf greens with championship credentials, and prices start from £77. As places to stay go too, this hotel certainly doesn’t disappoint.
Shopping
It’s time to shop! Head to Nicosia, the capital of the island, for boutiques, cafés and restaurants. Nicosia is just 1 hour from Ayia Napa and 1 hour 40 minutes from Paphos, so hire a care for the day or hop on a bus and have a day treating yourself to some holiday buys – why not!
Troodos Mountains
This is one for the culture vultures and those who like to explore the country by foot – for instance, hiking along Cyprus’s many coastal areas while stopping for the odd wine or coffee at the Troodos Mountains National Forest Park.
As the largest mountain range in Cyprus, this is a must-see while staying on the island. The Troodos region has ten monuments which are all included in the World Heritage list, and range from small churches to monasteries such as St John Lampadistis.
Cape Greco
Sitting at the southern end of Famagusta Bay near Ayia Napa, Cape Greco is a secluded spot with stunning scenery at every turn. And if you’re up for it, cliff jumping at here is a must-do for all adrenaline junkies. Grab your GoPro and, well, watch this video…
