Cabin Crew Secrets Spilled At 30,000 Feet

At some point we have all day-dreamed of becoming a flight attendant. Hearing stories of the glamorous lifestyle they lead, the exotic destinations and stop overs they have visited make us green with jealousy, but are things really this glamorous? Have you ever wanted to know what really goes on behind the scenes on an aeroplane?

At last the lid is lifted, so fasten your seat belts securely for these entertaining in-flight tales.

The over smiley flight attendant

If you’ve ever noticed a flight attendant with a massive grin on their face whilst giving the safety demo, it’s normally thanks to the other crew members pulling faces in the back galley. The safety demos are a legal requirement but can get fairly repetitive for frequent fliers. Trying to distract a fellow professional mid-demo is one way of making this routine a little more interesting.

The shaky voice PR announcement

Public speaking can make the most confident among us clam up with nerves but having to make a public announcement to hundreds of people is all part of a cabin crew members day. This still doesn’t mean the crew cannot have some fun with it. If the announcement sounds a little shaky or giggly it could be down to a mischievous co-worker unzipping their dress or dropping ice cubes down their backs, or even worse licking their face!

The Captain’s joke

If you’re a new start with the company or just new to cabin crew the joke is usually on you. One of the captain’s specials is calling you into the flight deck and will then tell you that he is experiencing difficulty with the landing gear and advises you to go out to the middle of the cabin and jump up and down to help shift the landing gear. You will be surprised on how many new starts have actually fallen for this.

The funny PAs

No doubt we have all experienced this one at some point or another. This usually involves an announcement from the captain that will go like this: “Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve reached cruising altitude and will be turning down the cabin lights. This is for your comfort and to enhance the appearance of your cabin crew.” Or maybe you have heard this one from the cabin crew:  “Please be sure to take all of your belongings.  If you’re going to leave anything, please make sure it’s something we’d like to have.”

So next time you jet off on one of our cheap holidays, watch out for your cabin crew and the little things they do to make their day go quicker. And let us know if you have come across any others.
