Do Celebrities Influence Your Holiday Destinations?

We recently surveyed 2000 holiday-lovers in a bid to find out just how much people really care about where celebrities go on holiday. Whether it’s reality TV stars, footballers or pop singers, do the lifestyles of the rich and famous really impact how we spend our time off? Here’s what we found out.

More than one in three under 35s stated an interest in celebrity holidays, as well as more than one in five over 35s surveyed.

At least one in 10 respondents from both age categories had been influenced by a celebrity connection, though under 35s again were most influenced. 80% of people who admitted an interest in celebrities also said they’d made their plans around a celebrity hotspot – but some people who claimed to have no interest in celebrities also told us they’d been influenced by them.

While many respondents wouldn’t splash the cash in search of a celebrity experience, it’s interesting to note that more over 35s said they would spend extra on a celebrity holiday than claimed to be influenced.

One in five adults say they’ve actually met a celebrity abroad, with over 35s showing the clear lead in celebrity-spotting.

2 – Marbella / Puerto Banus
3 – Italy

 

Looking at the answers by gender or by region showed some further interesting results – men are almost twice as likely to spend money on a celebrity holiday, with 18% saying that they’d break the bank to reach an A-list destination despite only 9% of women feeling the same.

There were clear regional variations too – while 35% of Londoners are interested in celebrity holidays, and 25% would spend more to visit popular celebrity holiday spots, less than 10% of Scottish and Welsh respondents felt that they or their spending were influenced by celebrity life.
