We know you don’t need an excuse to visit Walt Disney World, it’s already one of the most magical places on earth. But with exciting new rides and experiences being built year after year – you’ll be rushing to try out the latest adventures.
Never failing to impress, here’s 11 reasons why Disney World should be on your must-visit list.
1. Toy Story Land
One of 2018’s biggest attractions – Toy Story Land will allow you to explore the world of Andy’s back garden. Meet your favourite characters including Woody and Buzz as they join you on this interactive journey.
Based in Hollywood Studios, there’ll be two impressive themed attractions such as Slinky Dog Dash – a family rollercoaster that’ll have you and your little ones in a fit of giggles. He bends, twists, drops, and curves, sending you whooshing around the park.
Inspired by the first Toy Story film, the Alien Saucer ride will have you spinning through space. Dodge planets, satellites, and the dreaded ‘Claw’ as he looms over your toy rocket.
2. Guardians of the Galaxy
Epcot is receiving a huge makeover inspired by the popular film Guardians of the Galaxy. This will be added to the Future World section of the park, where guests can experience the excitement of space travel.
If you haven’t seen the film already, it’s a must-watch! Peter Quill – aka Star Lord visited Epcot as a kid, so it’s no surprise that Disney World has added this adventure to their list of attractions.
If it’s anything like the California Adventure Park ride, you’re in for a real treat. Pinballing through 700 planets, you’ll certainly feel the G-Force as the attraction rises and falls at lightning speed.
3. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Set to cover 14 acres of Disney World Orlando, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open in Hollywood Studios for 2019.
Guests will be transported to two Star Wars-inspired lands on the edge of space. Characters will spring to life, whilst you’re in the midst of all the action. Then, two major rides will have you battling between the First Order and Resistance.
Step into another world as you board the Star Destroyer – an attraction built on a scale Disney have never done before. Take the opportunity to fly the one and only Millennium Falcon, piloting the ship, firing weapons, and preparing for hyperspace.
It’s all one big mission – and you can earn galactic credits based on how you perform, but be careful you don’t end up on Harko’s list.
4. Ratatouille
Already huge in Disney Studios in Paris, the Ratatouille experience is set to break boundaries in 2021 for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary. A ride for the whole family, this 4D attraction allows you to follow in the footsteps of Remy the rat.
Park guests will be chased through a dark kitchen, after being shrunk down to the size of Remy. Scurry to safety through the sights, smells and sounds of the kitchen – we’re talking ovens, under tables, and across the roof of Gusteau’s famous Parisian restaurant.
5. Happily Ever After
Say goodbye to 14 years of Disney World ‘Wishes’, and welcome the explosive Happily Ever After night-time spectacular. Watch as fireworks decorate the night sky and all your favourite Disney movies are showcased in one huge performance.
It’s the story of Disney’s greatest adventures, including the classics, from Aladdin to The Little Mermaid, and more recent favourites like Moana, Zootopia and Big Hero 6.
Created with state-of-the-art project mapping technology, lasers and more characters than ever before, this is the show of a lifetime.
6. Tron Attraction
Adjacent to Space Mountain, the Tron ride is set to arrive in the Magic Kingdom at the same time as the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction. Already a hit in Shanghai, this indoor and outdoor coaster will send guests on their own Tron light cycle.
It’s been branded as game-changing by Disney, and that’s hardly a surprise with its high-tech features. Ride-goers will feel as if they’re traveling through the virtual reality grid, with seats that mimic motorcycles. Reaching up to 60mph, it’s said to be one of Disney’s fastest coasters.
7. An out-of-this-world dining experience
There’s nothing quite like a meal with a view, and my oh my have Disney delivered. Over the next few years Epcot will get ready to welcome a new restaurant located across from Mission: SPACE.
Operated by the Patina Restaurant Group, which already run Tutto Italia, Via Napolo and Morimoto Asia – get ready for a futuristic dining experience.
Feast on tasty cuisine while enjoying views from space and look down on earth with a cocktail in hand – it’s not very often you can say you’ve dined out of this world.
8. Epcot International Festival of the Arts
Recently added to the park, the Epcot International Festival of Arts will kick start 2018 with seminars and workshops from top Disney World artists. This includes drawing animation, photography, and the art of making topiaries – just a few of the amazing activities on offer.
Sink your teeth into tasty treats from the Food Studios and watch chefs work their magic. Sample braised beef ribs, jumbo chocolate chip cookies, seared red snapper and dark chocolate s’mores – your taste buds will be tingling with excitement.
When you’re done filling your face with Disney World goodies, catch a Broadway series performance, featuring some of the best Disney Theatrical productions.
9. New transportation
Walt Disney World Resort is about the size of San Francisco, so with that in mind, it seems fitting to put some magical transportation into place.
Enhancing your Disney adventure, there’ll be two new means of transport. Spot Minnie Mouse-themed cars around the park, ready and waiting to take you from A to B.
Enjoy panoramic views from the new Disney Skyliner – cable cars designed around beloved characters, which connect you to the Disney Art of Animation, Pop Century, Hollywood Studios, and the International Getaway at Epcot.
10. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Hooray! The first Micky-themed ride-through attraction is set to land in Hollywood Studios next year. The mouse that started it all finally features in a Disney World ride, and it doesn’t disappoint.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will be a 2 ½ D experience, with no glasses required. According to Disney Imagineer, Kevin Rafferty, it will turn the flat world of cartoon into a ‘dimensional display of amazingness’.
Guests will step through the movie screen and find themselves inside a Micky Mouse cartoon. The ride will feature all-new stories, catchy songs, and there will be more hidden Mickeys than any other attraction!
11. Willis Wood theatre
Mimicking the famous Kansas City Willis Wood theatre, where Walt lived in the 1920s after he left Marceline, this first-class playhouse will be a must-visit attraction.
Opening on Main Street, the venue will maintain the Disney tradition of incorporating Walt’s life into every aspect of the park.
Step into a whole new world and enjoy hits such as Frozen, live from the theatre. In the meantime, keep an eye out for future shows.
