New York

Night At The Museum

Despite being the set for many famous movies, one of the most loved films set in New York has to be Night At The Museum. The plot is about a newly recruited night security guard at the Museum of Natural History who discovers that an ancient curse causes the animals and exhibits on display to come to life and cause havoc.

If you want to feel like part of the cast during your trip to the Big Apple, head on down to the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan, west of Central Park. Adult tickets cost $23 and child tickets cost $13, and throughout the museum there are plenty of exhibitions to explore and activities to take part in. There are also various multi-attraction passes you can buy that include the museum, which could save you money in the long run! Just make sure you’re not there after the doors have been locked, you never know what you’ll discover!

Las Vegas

The Hangover

The Hangover movies follow a group of men who always seem to get themselves into bother, and the first of the movie trio finds three buddies wake up from a bachelor party in Las Vegas, with no memory of the previous night and the bachelor missing. They make their way around the city in order to find their friend before his wedding.

To feel like you’re one of the lads on a weekend break of a lifetime, your holiday starts at Caesar’s Palace. If your budget doesn’t quite cover a few nights in this grand hotel, then taking a trip to the casino is definitely worth it! Many of the hotels allow you to use their casinos without being a guest, so you can enjoy your ‘The Hangover’ themed break without breaking the bank.

Paris

Les Miserables

Paris is known as the ‘City of Love’ and has also inspired many movie sets over the years. One of the most iconic movies set in Paris, in the 19th Century, is Les Miserables. In the movie, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after breaking parole, agrees to care for a factory worker’s daughter. The decision changes their lives forever.

Of course, Les Miserables was originally a book, and there are plenty of spots throughout Paris that were frequented by the author. Hôtel Du Petit Moulin was the very place where the Les Misérables author would come each morning to devour a freshly baked baguette. And, it is supposedly the location where he witnessed the arrest of a bread thief himself – an experience which prompted him to shape the character of Valjean.

Today, the outside of the hotel still retains its original façade, spelling out the word ‘BOULANGERIE’ in vintage font, and is definitely worth taking a look during your Parisian adventures.

Abu Dhabi

Sex and the City 2

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and is the sister city of Dubai. Sex and the City 2 sees Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte join Samantha for a trip to Abu Dhabi, where Samantha’s ex is filming a new movie. The ladies are treated to true Emerati luxury before cultures collide!

Though the movie was actually filmed in Marrakech instead of Abu Dhabi, where it’s set, you can still enjoy some authentic Emerati experiences that the cast take part in such as visiting a souk. Some of the most popular souks are Souk Al Zafarana, Iranian Souk and Al Mina Souk.

Rome

Roman Holiday

Roman Holiday is an iconic film, featuring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, where a bored and sheltered princess escapes her guardians and falls in love with an American newsman in Rome. They explore the iconic sights of Rome on a Vespa scooter, and it’s the perfect way to take in the sights!

You can feel like Audrey Hepburn on your very own Vespa during your trip, with an abundance of Vespa rental spots and tours on offer throughout the city. The scooters are often the locals’ transport of choice, thanks to them being small, easy to weave through traffic, and also easy to park!.

Berlin

Cabaret

The movie Cabaret is based on the musical play written by Joe Masteroff. The plot is about a female girlie club entertainer in Weimar Republic era Berlin who romances two men while the Nazi Party rises to power around them. Despite the movie having 39 award wins and 18 nominations associated with it, including 8 Oscars, experiencing the musical play version in Berlin is a must-have experience.

During your time in Berlin, getting your hands on tickets to see Cabaret is one of the best experiences you can have. Though there are many venues you can visit, one of the favourites is Tipi Am Kanzleramt. Throughout the summer, there are several showings, almost every day of the week, with ticket prices ranging from €20,00 to €69,90 depending on your seating choice and day you visit.

Chicago

Chicago

When you think of the city Chicago, it’s hard to not think of the stars-filled movie that shares its name. In the film, starring Renée Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Richard Gere, two death-row murderesses develop a fierce rivalry while competing for publicity, celebrity, and a sleazy lawyer’s attention.

While we don’t recommend getting yourself banged up on death-row to feel a part of the film, there are plenty of other ways you can enjoy the best of Chicago, thanks to the musical it was based on. Chicago the musical is the longest-running American musical in Broadway history! During its USA tours, there’s plenty of opportunities for you to watch the story unfold on the big stage.

Amsterdam

The Fault in Our Stars

One of our favourite movies starring the fascinating city of Amsterdam is The Fault in Our Stars. Despite it being a sad film, it’s thought provoking and reminds us to always be grateful. The synopsis of the movie is, two teenage cancer patients begin a life-affirming journey to visit a reclusive author in Amsterdam.

In the movie, Hazel and Gus ride along the canal and visit a Dutch restaurant called Oranje. There are plenty of canal cruise tours in Amsterdam and this is the best way to take in everything the city has to offer while not breaking a sweat! Sadly, Oranje is no longer open, so you won’t be able to dine in the same spot as the stars, but there are plenty of other canal-side restaurants that offer up amazing views and even better food.

Vienna

Amadeus

The movie Amadeus is set in 18th Century Vienna and is a fictionalised story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart from the time he left Salzburg. The movie shows the life, success and troubles of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, as told by Antonio Salieri, the contemporaneous composer who was insanely jealous of Mozart’s talent and claimed to have murdered him.

There are plenty of Mozart themed experiences and tours you can enjoy in Vienna, and you can explore them on Musement. One of our favourites is the Mozarthaus Vienna and Haus der Musik tour. Mozarthaus Vienna is the only Vienna apartment of Mozart’s that has been preserved, where he composed more music than anywhere else!

Krakow

Schindler’s List

Although Schindler’s List is a heartbreaking portrayal of Nazi authority in Poland during World War II, the thought provoking movie is a great way to learn about history in an easy to consume way. Make sure you grab a box of tissues when watching this one!

Though it’s great to see the back of these awful times, it is important to remember the hurt and suffering of others to ensure we can help prevent these terrible crimes in future. One of the main reasons people choose to visit Krakow is to take a trip to one of the most sobering places on earth – Auschwitz. Whether you’re a history buff or not, if you get the chance, visiting this history time capsule is definitely worth it, and will be an unforgettable experience.
