Melia Tortuga Beach Resort and Spa
The Melia Tortuga Beach Resort and Spa is a great spot for families, with a packed activities timetable, two fantastic pools and a beachfront location. Algodoeiro Beach is filled with watersports too, so even outside of the hotel there’s plenty of things to enjoy as a family! The town of Santa Maria is a short taxi ride away for when you’re craving a dose of culture.
If you’re anything like us, food is super important on holiday, especially when going All Inclusive. There’s plenty of delicious places to grab a bite here including the main buffet restaurant and O’Grille restaurant and bar. There’s also a la carte dining available at Pasta Nostra buffet, plus Aqua Nikkey fusion which serves up Asian and Peruvian food for dinner, just don’t forget to book a table!
During the daytime, you’ll find something to keep the whole family entertained, whether it’s watersports, dance lessons, beach games or even a trip to the playroom. The tempo picks up in the evenings, when local dance troupes and live singers make regular appearances on the Piazza terrace. Children have their own mini-disco, too.

RIU Touareg
With six pools and just as many restaurants, plus 24-hour All Inclusive, this big, beachfront hotel will leave you wanting for nothing. RIU Touareg is a great choice for both adults and families. Grown-ups can book a room in the adults-only area, which gives you access to an exclusive pool and à la carte restaurant. Families, meanwhile, have a kids’ club and mini-discos to make the most of.
There’s a good line in entertainment here, with live music, shows and karaoke sessions all on the agenda. A live orchestra performs one night a week alongside dance shows and cabaret. You can also join the ‘Riu Get Together Party’ at the sister hotel Riu Karamboa, transport’s included. There’s also a nightclub which is open seven days a week where adults can enjoy a mix of classic tracks, pop, dance, trance and R&B.
The star of the show here is the RIU Touareg’s pool scene. There’s six spots to choose from, the main outdoor pool comes with the added luxury of in-water loungers, a whirlpool bath and swim-up bar. There are towels on hand if you need one, too. There’s two children’s outdoor pools which are heated during the winter months and feature fun slides and a fountain. The adults-only number features a whirlpool bath and pool bar, exclusive to those staying in the Adults Only section.

All turrets and towers, the castle-like RIU Funana has a great location, right by a powder-soft beach. You’ll find this property just a pebble-skim from a stretch of beautiful sand, so it’s easy to switch sunbathing spots from poolside to seaside. Santa Maria centre is only 1.5km away if you’re hoping to explore your surroundings during your stay.
You’ve got four dining spots to choose from, including a covers-all-bases buffet place, and a poolside venue that offers grilled dishes. Snacks are available 24 hours, too. For those who don’t want to step out of the pool to grab a drink, there’s even a swim-up bar serving up all of your favourite tipples.
Rooms come with either a balcony or terrace to allow extra light. There are double rooms and twin rooms with various furnishings to suit your needs, as well as interconnecting 2 bedroom family rooms. For a little extra, you can book one of the suites for some extra space and a lounge. All rooms include air-conditioning, ceiling fan, TV, and a mini-fridge.

Games consoles, a big play area and a mini-cinema round things off. The kids’ club offers up games and activities tailored to different ages. So, whether you’re a toddler or a teenager, there’ll always be something to do.
There’s a good variety of rooms here. If you’re coming with little ones, 2-bedroom family rooms provide plenty of space. They all come with a balcony or a terrace – plus air-conditioning and Wi-Fi is included. Alternatively, double rooms are available for 2, 3, or 4 people.
