My husband took me for a surprise ski trip to Zell am See in Austria at the beginning of February. Zell am See is such a charming town with beautiful scenery, where the magnificent mountains sparkle in the sun and snowy white trees scatter the landscape. We’d not skiied for quite a few years, and I was a little worried in case I’d forgotten my ski legs! Luckily I needn’t have worried as the slopes catered for all abilities from smooth, easy descents to steep, nail biting ones. I got to spend the first couple of days getting used to the feel of the snow beneath my skis, and improve my technique, then it was time to challenge the rest of the mountain! I got such a buzz when I reached the bottom of the mountain and looked proudly back up the slope that I’d just conquered. It just made me want to do it all over again! Skiing definitely gives such a rush of adrenaline, and it is so refreshing feeling the rush of the wind against my cheeks.
Stunning surroundings of Zell am See
The lifts in resort are really good and the lovely heated stair lifts with windshields are a welcome addition. There are an array of cafes and restaurants scattered around the mountains that serve the most delicious lunches. The Alpine Centre near the resort is great and when not on the slopes we had a lovely stroll and the picturesque village and the gorgeous lake. Skiing holidays can be a lot more than just skiing! My husband loved the gorgeous shots he got with his new camera. It was a shame the food was so highly priced on the mountain though, but it’s the same in every ski resort. We had an amazing few days and would recommend skiing to anyone. It’s so easy to pick up and perfect for anyone looking for a bit of fun and adventure.
