Important – Changes To Indian Visa

UPDATE 13TH AUGUST 2015

A press statement from the Minister (Press & Information) and Head of Chancery at the High Commission of India has been released to advise that the tourist E-visa process  will be introduced to the UK. This will remove the need to apply in person or by post. Making the process of applying for a visa much simpler.

The e-visa process will begin in the UK on Saturday 15th August 2015.

Applicants may apply online minimum 4 days in advance of the date of arrival with a window of 30 days.

The Tourist Visa (eTV) fee is US$ 60 per passenger excluding any charge for credit/debit cards which must be paid at least 4 days before the expected date of travel otherwise the application will not be processed.

The validity of visa will be 30 days from the date of arrival in India.

 

 

 

What documents will you need to apply for an e-visa

The High Commission of India has stated that you will need –

A recent  photograph with white background and photo page of Passport containing personal details like name,date of birth, nationality , expiry date etc. . The application is liable to be rejected if the uploaded document and photograph are not clear .

Are you eligible?

An e-visa is intended for tourists so only apply if your trip to India is for the purpose of sightseeing, leisure, casual visit to meet friends or relatives, short duration medical visit or a casual business trip.

Your passport needs to be valid for at least six months beyond the return date and needs to have at least two blank pages for the Immigration Officer to stamp on arrival.

You should travel with a return ticket or onward journey ticket. You must also prove that you have enough money to fund your time in India.

If you have a Pakistani passport or of Pakistani origin you need to apply for a regular visa at the Indian Mission.

Diplomatic/Official passport holders are not eligible.

Individuals should have their own passports and not be included in the passport of a spouse or other individual.

 

 

 

 

 Useful information

The fee for the e-visa (eTV) is paid in US dollars and costs $60 per passenger, this is around £38. However there is also a charge for using a credit/debit card this fee has not yet been confirmed. Once submitted this fee is non-refundable due to the fee being for the processing of the visa.

You are required to carry a copy of the e-visa with you when you travel.

Once you arrive in India your biometric details will be taken at immigrations.
